I seriously doubt Obama will do ANy good for this country. I understand he is breaking down the racial wall but is that the only reason people are voting for him. I mean, come on!!!

If you think race is the only reason anyone would vote for Obama then you dont know anything about Obama.

Following high school, Obama moved to Los Angeles, where he studied at Occidental College for two years.[11] He then transferred to Columbia University in New York City, where he majored in political science with a specialization in international relations.[12] Obama graduated with a B.A. from Columbia in 1983, then at the start of the following year worked for a year at the Business International Corporation[13][14] and then at the New York Public Interest Research Group.[15][16]

Barack Obama was raised by his mother, Ann Dunham. After four years in New York City, Obama moved to Chicago, where he was hired as director of Developing Communities Project (DCP), a church-based community organization originally comprising eight Catholic parishes in Greater Roseland (Roseland, West Pullman, and Riverdale) on Chicago's far South Side, and worked there for three years from June 1985 to May 1988.[15][17] During his three years as the DCP's director, its staff grew from one to thirteen and its annual budget grew from $70,000 to $400,000, with accomplishments including helping set up a job training program, a college preparatory tutoring program, and a tenants' rights organization in Altgeld Gardens.[18] Obama also worked as a consultant and instructor for the Gamaliel Foundation, a community organizing institute.[19] In mid-1988, he traveled for the first time to Europe for three weeks and then for five weeks in Kenya, where he met many of his Kenyan relatives for the first time.[20]

Obama entered Harvard Law School in late 1988. At the end of his first year, he was selected, based on his grades and a writing competition, as an editor of the Harvard Law Review.[21] In February 1990, in his second year, he was elected president of the Law Review, a full-time volunteer position functioning as editor-in-chief and supervising the Law Review's staff of eighty editors.[22] Obama's election as the first black president of the Law Review was widely reported and followed by several long, detailed profiles.[22] During his summers, he returned to Chicago where he worked as a summer associate at the law firms of Sidley & Austin in 1989 and Hopkins & Sutter in 1990.[23] After graduating with a Juris Doctor (J.D.) magna cum laude[24][25] from Harvard in 1991, he returned to Chicago.[21]

The publicity from his election as the first black president of the Harvard Law Review led to a publishing contract and advance for a book about race relations.[26] In an effort to recruit him to their faculty, the University of Chicago Law School provided Obama with a fellowship and an office to work on his book.[26] He originally planned to finish the book in one year, but it took much longer as the book evolved into a personal memoir. In order to work without interruptions, Obama and his wife, Michelle, traveled to Bali where he wrote for several months. The manuscript was finally published in mid-1995 as Dreams from My Father.[26]

Obama directed Illinois' Project Vote from April to October 1992, a voter registration drive with a staff of ten and seven hundred volunteers; it achieved its goal of registering 150,000 of 400,000 unregistered African-Americans in the state, and led to Crain's Chicago Business naming Obama to its 1993 list of "40 under Forty" powers to be.[27][28]

Right-to-left: Barack Obama and Maya Soetoro with their mother Ann Dunham and grandfather Stanley Dunham in Hawaii (early 1970s).Beginning in 1992, Obama taught constitutional law at the University of Chicago Law School for twelve years, being first classified as a Lecturer from 1992 to 1996, and then as a Senior Lecturer from 1996 to 2004.[29]

He also, in 1993, joined Davis, Miner, Barnhill & Galland, a twelve-attorney law firm specializing in civil rights litigation and neighborhood economic development, where he was an associate for three years from 1993 to 1996, then of counsel from 1996 to 2004, with his law license becoming inactive in 2002.[15][30][31]

Obama was a founding member of the board of directors of Public Allies in 1992, resigning before his wife, Michelle, became the founding executive director of Public Allies Chicago in early 1993.[15][32] He served from 1994 to 2002 on the board of directors of the Woods Fund of Chicago, which in 1985 had been the first foundation to fund the Developing Communities Project, and also from 1994 to 2002 on the board of directors of The Joyce Foundation.[15] Obama served on the board of directors of the Chicago Annenberg Challenge from 1995 to 2002, as founding president and chairman of the board of directors from 1995 to 1999.[15] He also served on the board of directors of the Chicago Lawyers' Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, the Center for Neighborhood Technology, and the Lugenia Burns Hope Center.[15]

No. It's not the only reason people are voting for him. Many Centrists like myself are voting for Obama because the alternative is simply unacceptable. Many Republicans simply will not face the fact that the Neocon factions within the party have corrupted and destroyed it. Our own elected and appointed official GOT RICH off of 9/11 and Iraq. They took your tax money, laundered it through contracted corporations and put it right in their pockets. The Neocon power base of Rummy, Shultz, Cheney, Jackson, and Kissinger along with scores of others finally got what they've always wanted. They turned our own administration into war/disater profiteers and they all got filthy rich. These guys have been running the party since the 80s and until this faction is purged, how can you in good conscience vote for a candidate from this party? They should rot in prison.

If you think race is the only reason anyone would vote for Obama then you dont know anything about Obama.

Obama will destroy the economy, he will raise taxes, he will drive the deficit even farther south and he plans to force the price of electricty, gas and all sources of energy higher to " break our dependency" on them.

You are the one that does not know anything about Obama. Get ready for that Depression.

Thank you!!! This is someone that truly understands what obama will do.

I heard many on your side say the same about Clinton and none of that came true.

I did say Bush would screw this country up and he has.

if we go in to a depression... it is the makings of this present administration and President, and the abuses on Wall Street and with the Fed, and not our future president, whether it be mccain or obama.

Obama is not not record saying this.

Are you just brain dead? Raising Taxes in this environment is a sure way to drop us into a depression, not to mention raising taxes on business will dry up even more jobs as those that can flee for better conditions in other Countries.

Have you paid attention? Obama plans to raise the price of gas, electricity, drive the coal power plants out of Business ( you know the plants that supply over 60 percent of our electricity in this country) and raise taxes on everyone. He will use new taxes and new regualtions to accomplish this, he has said so ON TAPE. A TAPE linked on this very board. He calls it Price adjustment and gloats how he will break us of our "dependency" on coal non renewable resources by forcing us to pay to much for it. Ohh he will look after the poor but he had nothing to say about the middle class that won't be able to afford the skyrocketing prices he plans.

Nor does he have a replacement for that coal or oil to create our electricity.
You people are fucking stupid as hell.

So a centrist makes the choice of voting for an extremist over a person with a vast history of being more moderate and working on large issues across party lines

Yeah... YOU'RE a centrist

Yes he is, he ADMITS his plans will raise the deficit for at least 4 to 6 years before he even considers any way to cut it at all. He admits he plans to drive electricity costs through the roof. What do you think business uses to power their buildings, machinery and equipment? Where do you think lighting at night and in buildings COMES from?

Over 60 percent of our Electricity in this country is created by COAL fired plants and he is ON RECORD stating he plans to drive them OUT OF BUSINESS. He is against Nuclear and natural gas as well. He plans to drive them out too.

As someone who was also not pleased, to say the least, with my alternatives, I'd be interested in how you reconcile your vote for him and his patent Marxist principles. I know it's considered inflammatory in this country to identify people as Marxists or Socialist or Communists, but really people we need to grow up. These are just political parties with various view points. Not talking about them doesn't make them go away and pretending the by Obama accepting the label of Democrat, that makes his beliefs like Ernst Hollings is farcical. There is one Socialist in the Senate (or he used to identify as such) Bernie Sanders of Vermont and Obama voted to the left of him. So, what does that tell you?

But I digress, I only meant to say that we should not lie to ourselves about who or what we are voting for or against. So, back to your reconciling this fact. Is it not important to you? You don't really care what label is put on someone, you just vote on the what you think you can divine out of what he says? Or, do you reconcile it some other way?

More people thinking they know what someone else believes.

Give it up.

Hes a democrat and your guy is a republican and your brand is sooooo badly tarnished by they partys own actions the world hates it.
