Is Modernity Good for Us?

The design furniture is the most decorative thing that one could have in his life to live a classic lifestyle. liketheoriginal .com

If only they had antibiotics and a constant room temperature existence back when the air was clean, the water was pure, they would have lived into their 90's and died of old age.

Another enormous problem for the rich countries: In the past a women might have 8 children and maybe 2 would survive. Now perhaps a woman might have one child who will usually survive - not infrequently with the help of massive medical intervention. As the generations proceed unhealthy children will bequeath undesirable DNA to their descendants and the population will become more and more infirm.

Unfortunately you can't cheat Mother Nature.

And those women who had 8 children had a high rate of dying in child birth.

Your hatred of development ignores the impact of modernity upon lifespans. We live longer now for a reason, bub.

It looks like you completely missed the point of my post.

Why Most Brazilian Women Get C-Sections
In many parts of the world, women are having more Cesarean sections than medically necessary. Recent abuses of pregnant women in Brazil have sparked a small, vocal movement of activists who want mothers to have more say in the delivery room.

Supposedly, the one clear benefit of modernity is improved health.

But affluence (and the poor diet and sedentary lifestyle that goes with affluence) and pollution can lead to major health problems, as can the emptiness often found in modern existence.

Here are some diseases associated with affluence: type 2 diabetes, coronary heart disease, cerebrovascular disease, peripheral vascular disease, obesity, certain forms of cancer, asthma, alcoholism, gout, allergies and depression, as well as a major range of other psychiatric illnesses.

Co-Creator of the Pill Laments Resulting Demographic "Horror Scenario"

Is it too much to say that modern medicine destroys populations over which it rules?

Longevity has more to do with our genes than lifestyle factors, technology, etc. You either have the 3+ genes tied to living well beyond the avg life expectendcy or you don't. Pleanty of people lived well and healthily into their 80s and beyond long before modern medicine. Consequently, crediting medicine and technology is faulty. Just as blaming diet, stress, and other factors shortens it. Can contribute certainly, but mostly it's a function of your genes as to how long you'll live.

Health is multi-billion dollar industry. With so much money at stake, no one earning a living from health in some fashion is going to tell you the truth about it being your genes more than anything else.

Population control is not unique to civilization. If it had not been practiced, they surely would have run out of resources to hunt and gather.

"The women very frequently attending the men in their parties of war and of hunting, child-bearing becomes extremely inconvenient to them. It is said, therefore, that they have learnt the practice of procuring abortion by the use of some vegetable; and that it even extends to prevent conception for a considerable time after."
-- Thomas Jefferson; from 'Notes on Virginia'

Here is one major boon of modernity:

The fact that many people roam around with mobile phones with built-in mini-cameras inside it affords drivers the chance to take real-time photos of car license plates following the scene of accidents. This enables insurance claims to be processed much more efficiently, given that evidence of spotted incidents are readily available without disputes regarding personal biases and/or record errors.

Here is one major drawback of this boon:

The availability of layman proofs for insurance claims makes lawsuits seem more easy and accessible.

Since the Christian Bible suggests that lifestyle must be tempered with considerations of ominous messages of prosperity avarice, we can think of how modern living 'facilitates' the discussions of convenience civil procedures and perhaps seductive 'governance colloquialization.'

There's nothing wrong with making civil procedure feel more user-friendly (with the advent of communications networking technologies and records filings, etc.). However, perhaps the Great Tribulation refers to ideas about ravenous resource hoarding arrogance.
