Fort Lauderdale airport shooting leaves multiple people dead
FORT LAUDERDALE, Fla. -- Authorities say a lone shooter opened fire at the Fort Lauderdale, Florida, international airport Friday, killing at least five people before he was taken into custody. The airport suspended operations as law enforcement authorities rushed to the scene and emergency medical workers treated at least one bleeding victim on the tarmac.
The gunman was identified as Esteban Santiago, who was carrying a military identification and was born in New Jersey, a law enforcement source told CBS News.
The Broward County Sheriff’s Office announced the death toll on its Twitter account. The sheriff’s office also said eight people were injured and taken to a hospital.
