And to think there are some who tout this asshole for president.

This is what you'd expect from a reality show, not what would be expected of a serious thinker .. someone who should have the slightest consideration to be POTUS.

For people with brains ..

David Prosser: China holds the trump cards in any showdown with the US

excerpt --

" ... US Treasury data reveals that this is what happened, albeit to a limited extent, in November, when China sold more than $11bn of US debt. The sell-off followed several months in which China had added to its holdings, but nonetheless fuelled gossip that it might now be considering taking a more diversified approach to its investments overseas.

In fact, it would take a fall-out of spectacular proportions to prompt China to dump its portfolio of Treasuries. The panic on world markets that would result from such a spectacular vote of no confidence in the US economy would be disastrous for it. So too would a collapse in the value of the dollar, one likely result, with Chinese exports to the US trashed.

Still, even a hint from theChinese that they have now bought as many Treasuries as they want would be dangerous, with the US continuing to rack up borrowing in order to support its faltering US economy. If China isn't going to pay for the rising US deficit, who is?

European nations, struggling with a debt crisis of their own, are not in a position to support the US with huge bond purchases. The oil-rich states of the Middle East are less fiscally constrained but already have big holdings of Treasuries and would be nervous about adding to them substantially. Japan and the rest of Asia could not be relied upon either.

US Treasury officials have already begun to talk about how they might persuade American savers to invest more in their own country's debt and the Federal Reserve would probably also step in as a buyer of last resort. Maybe American banks might be forced to invest too.

All of these sources of finance combined, however, could not replace the Chinese investments of recent times indefinitely. And the sheer scale of China's investment in American debt gives it huge power. For all the demands on President Obama to condemn Chinese human rights abuses or exert concessions from it on the value of the remnimbi, it is now China that holds the whip hand in this relationship."

China steals our products, steals our secrets, has absolutely no respect for Intellectual property rights, none at all and make Chicago/Tammany Hall look law abiding.

If you're all nipply about them holding our debt find some federal government programs and department to close.

The inevitable result of free trade/globalization is that rich nations get poorer and poor nations get richer.

Also, if they'll fight, they'll want to fight Obama before 2012 and not have to face Palin.

I am with Frank. I think its time to do something about China! The coke CEO isn't worried because in America the bottling of coke is done by machines not US workers. He also sells a low cost popular beverage. What he is worried about is the 1.3 billion possible coke drinkers in China! A market is 470 million people larger than ALL OF EUROPE, including Russia and Turkey (830 million people). That is 1.5 USA populations bigger than Europe.

Also larger than all of Latin America and all of Africa!

This might be what the Coke CEO is looking at!

Let's see how the Coke CEO feels once China pirates their formula and sells it for 20% the cost of a true Coke

The inevitable result of free trade is that poor nations get richer and rich nations get...richer.

<But lets not confuse our piecemeal trade agreements across the globe with "free trade". it's more akin to managed tariffs.>

So true or so called Free Trade Agreements are only free to the countries coming to our markets and not the other way around!

He's right but China owns quite a bit of this nation. So they laid out the red carpet and puckered up for some Chinese ass-kissing. It is what it is.
