Progress: Toilets and jobs in India | The Economist
Talk about perspective...
India has been a country for like a few hundreds years at least I'm guessing...
They don't have a sewer or waste disposal system yet.
India has nuclear weapons and they are shitting on the floor.
Can't we send Joe Biden over there to help them out?
I believe any job where you contribute to society is better than criminal activity
The wall street occupiers were bitching about the 1%'ers, they are the 1%'ers in world affairs.
If that were the case, they would have had some sort of working plumbing in and around homes and businesses in their rural parts years ago.
India should hurry up and pass a big stimulus bill like we did because there will be plenty of shitter-ready jobs to go around.
There are too damned many people in India. Economic circumstances will ALWAYS be dire in that sort of population environment.
The same thing is true in China. The Great Economic Revival has probably bypassed 60% of the population, and with no environmental controls in place ....................... they live in what would make our worst inner-city ghetto look like Beverly Hills.
Our business leaders have found Nirvana. A horde of cheap labor to whom living 1,000 feet further away from an open sewer is "movin' on up to the East Side" ................. therefore, no need to pay them much. A dollar a day is enough.
And they don't WANT it fixed.
Many right-wing economic thinkers want you to live in their "eat your vegetables - people in China would be happy to have them" philosophy.
This isn't China. This is the United States.
We should do better than that.
Yes... at least to many of us.
