Incidently, the thing is, broadcasters are licensed. They only get to broadcast if the rest of us determine they ARE broadcasting in the public interest. It's just mostly, we don't care or we've let the big corporations just run the show.
Which is why Americans tend to be so ignorant of the world around them. News departments used to be run at a loss because they were a public service. Now news is supposed to be a profit center, so it's "Infotainment" instead of informing people.
