Iraq celebrates Independence Day

When the Bush administration decided to invade Iraq two years ago, it envisioned a quick handover to handpicked allies in a secular government that would be the antithesis of Iran's theocracy -- potentially even a foil to Tehran's regional ambitions.

But, in one of the greatest ironies of the U.S. intervention, Iraqis instead went to the polls and elected a government with a strong religious base -- and very close ties to the Islamic republic next door. It is the last thing the administration expected from its costly Iraq policy --

and that oped was as wrong then as it is now
its only 4 years old
LOL
you lose again

OWNED!

ROFL... Poor Chris...

The simple fact is that Iraq is FREE to do whatever the hell it wants...

If it chooses wisely, it can remain free to do whatever it wants; if it chooses poorly and succumbs to the socialist tendencies which seek protection from a strong government; be that a 'secularist' government which worships the State, such as the idiots presently fawning all over the BOY King... or a Theocratic government common to Islam, then it will suffer the tyranny common to such; and where that tyrannical governance crosses interests with Americans, as it will inevitably do, it risks the catastrophe of doing so when Americans are present in US Governance; such as wil intevitably be the case by 2012 and we'll simply return to kick the Islamic shit out of them AGAIN.

Only next time we'll have no interests in limiting our war on 'the Iraqi Government' and take the war to the WHOLE of Iraq, where those that chose poorly will find themselves heaped in mounds of bulldozed graves, and the few that survive will have yet ANOTHER set of choices t make.

You idiots seem to think that there is a means by which these choices and the ramifications thereof are somehow avoidable... when Nature requires otherwise.

Which is merely yet another example common to the certianty that Leftists are to be ignored and culturally ostricized; and NEVER allowed within 10 miles of a voting booth.

Iraq rolls out red carpet for Ahmadinejad visit

Ian Black, Middle East editor

The Guardian, Monday 3 March 2008 Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, the Iranian president, pledged a new chapter in relations with Iraq yesterday as he ignored the huge US military presence in the country and arrived to a red-carpet welcome in Baghdad on the first visit of its kind since the 1979 Islamic revolution.

Symbolically, it was also the first fully fledged state visit to Iraq by any foreign head of state since the US-led coalition overthrew Saddam Hussein's Ba'ath dictatorship in 2003.

Ahmadinejad held hands with his Iraqi counterpart, Jalal Talabani, as their national anthems were played, underlining Iran's regional clout and influence with the Shia-dominated Baghdad government, many of whose leaders lived in exile in Tehran during the Saddam era.
