Iran Seizes 3 Bases Of Kurdish Opposition Group In Iraq: State News Agency

TEHRAN, Iran (AP) — Iranian Revolutionary Guard forces have taken control of three bases of an Iranian Kurdish opposition group in neighboring Iraq, the state news agency reported Monday.

IRNA quoted Colonel Delavar Ranjbarzadeh, a local commander of the powerful Revolutionary Guard, as saying "a large number" of members of the Iranian Kurdish opposition group PEJAK have been killed in fierce clashes over the past two days. The clashes are still ongoing.

"Three bases in Iraqi territory were providing assistance to the terrorists. ... All the bases have fallen into the hands of the (Iranian) forces," IRNA quoted Ranjbarzadeh as saying. He said PEJAK rebels have sustained a "heavy and historic defeat."

PEJAK rebels say Iranian forces entered Iraq's semi-autonomous Kurdish region to fight them. They claim that rebels have killed 53 Iranian soldiers and wounded 43 while only two PEJAK members were killed and seven wounded in clashes.

Iran threatened last week to attack PEJAK bases in Iraqi Kurdistan after accusing the president of the regional government, Massoud Barzani, of providing bases to the group without informing the central government in Baghdad.

PEJAK, which stands in Kurdish for the "Party of Free Life of Kurdistan," has been involved in sporadic armed clashes with Iranian forces in recent years. The rebels say they are fighting for greater rights for their minority community.

Iran has accused the U.S., Britain and Israel of seeking to incite tension on Iran's borders to undermine the government in Tehran, charges those countries have denied.

Iran has sporadically bombed PEJAK bases deep inside Iraqi Kurdistan.

A raid by Iranian troops on a Kurdish fighters' camp along the border with Iraq has killed at least two fighters and one member of Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps, the two sides say.

Iran's official news agency IRNA said the operation began Saturday night and ended early Sunday near the largely Kurdish town of Sardasht in the mountains of northwestern Iran.

Well, I guess that sews it up. They have nukes now, so they're rumbling around seeing if they can start something so they can start wiping US Allies off the face of the map. I guess Petraeus replacement General John Allen will have his hands full immediately after having been passed the baton.

These "Opposition Groups" are terrorists.
It's same organization as PKK.
And the mountain (Kandil) in Iraq from where they operate also reaches into Iran.
There is no civilian population there.

Right is Iran, left Iraq and to the North lies Turkey:

Turkish Deputy Prime Minister and government spokesperson Bulent Arinc said on Monday that Turkey could stage a cross-border operation in fight against the banned Kurdish Workers' Party (PKK) when necessary.

The Turkish government could instruct the armed forces to stage a cross-border operation if necessary, Arinc told reporters after the cabinet meeting in the Turkish capital of Ankara.

"In such a case, a cross-border operation can be staged, however, we have not talked about such an operation or such a need in our today's meeting," said Arinc.

Arinc said the cabinet asked the Interior Ministry to launch an investigation into the PKK attack that killed 13 soldiers in Silvan town of the southeastern province of Diyarbakir.

On Thursday, PKK militants killed 13 Turkish soldiers and wounded seven others in an ambush in Silvan town. Turkish Armed Forces said seven PKK rebels were killed in the clash.

Arinc said the General Staff had also launched an administrative investigation into the attack, and the result of this investigation would be presented to the prime minister.

Well the Iranians have always repressed the Kurds, even when Iran was a US Ally. In fact the Shah of Iran personally asked the US to stop supporting the Kurds when he was in power, so they could crush them. The Kurds have a long history in the region of being attacked from all sides.

Cool. Not a big fan of the Kurds. All the countries you listed are victims of their terrorism.

I have to disagree with you there bro, the Kurds are one of the few friends America has in the region. Even though we have turned our backs on the Kurds and fucked them hard when Bush Senior told the people in Iraq to raise up, and than let Saddam slaughter them, the Kurds generally do like Americans and look to us as a big brother of sorts. Kurdistan is the only place in Iraq where an American can go without security, there have been no American Troops killed in Kurdistan. Iraq, Syria, Turkey and Iran don't like the Kurds because of cultural differences and have been repressing them for decades.

Give it time. If they get what they want they'd be bombing us too.

God I hope not, we have enough enemies as it is.
