In 2001 there were 4 OPEC countries who opposed the US. Iraq, Venezuela, Libya and Iran.

Three of them have been invaded, bombed, seen regime change, or something similar. In Venezuela's case it lasted a few days, but the US put money into help "democracy" (by which they mean taking down a democratically elected leader, replacing him with non-elected leaders all in the name of democracy then spending the next few years pretending he was a dictator, oh, while supporting countries like Saudi Arabia and, to tie in with Iran, Pakistan).

In this time the US also supported Pakistan getting nukes. Yes, seriously, the US let an ally that is worse than a seriously bad mental patient with a loaded gun and a bomb.

However the US has been targeting Iran for a long time. Is the US govt afraid Iran will get nukes and the US won't be able to invade?

Certainly the main reason behind sanctions and targeting the nuclear capabilities of Iran seem to be the same as those for invading Iraq, bombing Libya, and trying to get rid of Hugo Chavez. OIL.

Why doesn't the US govt just come out and say that they're doing this because Iran sits on oil, and wants to be able to invade at will when it chooses to instead of pussyfooting around pretending it's all about nuclear weapons?

Just to inject a little historical reality into this subject, Bill Clinton wanted to sell sophisticated missile targeting technology to China but was blocked by the Pentagon, so he transferred approval authority to the Commerce Department (remember Ron Brown?). This allowed China to accurately target nuclear missiles at India, who then started building its own nuclear weapons as a deterrent. In turn, this prompted Pakistan to build its own nuclear weapons as a deterrent to India.

All for a few campaign contributions! Now back to your point...

Don't worry there won't be a deal or an invasion Iran will get nukes then everyone else in the middle east will start working on them as deterrent for Iran using them and everyone will be happy.

First step Iran gets the bomb

Second step Iran transfers nuclear weapons to its proxies

Third step that party begins :rolleyes:

Iran is not a partner but an enemy...when oh when will some of you understand that.

With any geopolitical scenario involving the Middle East.

You must factor the dominate player Israel into the equation. .....

One nuke from Iran on Israel and they are all but defeated. I sincerely believe that is the end game that Iran plans, but I hope I am wrong.

And one nuke from Pakistan on anyone which the govt at the time chooses isn't going to be a major problem?

To be honest, Iran probably wants nukes to stop the threat of invasion from the US which is very real.

Would Iran do this? Plenty of countries have nukes, and would probably love to nuke their neighbors. But they don't.

If Iran had nukes it would more likely be defensive, like everyone else. They'd know retaliation from the US would be swift.

MAD.

Oh, yeah, some people want you to believe that this is all about Israel.

When does the invasion of Iran start? 2 weeks after a Republican is in the White House?

You need to thaw your brain, if it isn't already mush.
