WASHINGTON — The United States and Iran have agreed for the first time to one-on-one negotiations over Iran’s nuclear program, according to Obama administration officials, setting the stage for what could be a last-ditch diplomatic effort to avert a military strike on Iran.

Iranian officials have insisted that the talks wait until after the presidential election, a senior administration official said, telling their American counterparts that they want to know which American president they would be negotiating with.

News of the agreement — a result of intense, secret exchanges between American and Iranian officials that date almost to the beginning of President Obama’s term — comes at a critical moment in the presidential contest, just two weeks before Election Day and a day before the final debate, which is to focus on national security and foreign policy.

You were saying?

Iran is trying to get Obama re-elected.
not sure it can be done still. promblem is iran leader done this before. he said he wanted to talk before but hard to talk to someone before who does not let his people free.

so obama got to be careful with this one. in debate can,t show that he give in to iran if president with any agreement. also has to ensure israel that he on their side

well be good if true but still promblem for negaotations with iran leader being who he is. the man is against homosextuality and isreal.

Obama also got to be careful with this as has to remain strong that he would not be weak in his negotiations with iran.

I fail to see the problem?

Many people don't like homos and Israel.
well that fine as people can have their own views but bit difficult to deal with iran leader who has such extreme views.

Any President who thinks that Iran will negotiate in good faith should be impeached the moment he agrees to negotiations.
bit unfair. but president got to be careful about this as he can,t agree to anything that make him look weak.

iran leadership not people to trust very much

So if he liked fudge packers; he would be a great guy, and easy to negotiate with?
if he was someone who did not not want to wipe isreal off face of the earth and hate people due to their sexulity then he might be someone could deal with but sadly their not the case.

Obama's "amazing agreement" with the enemy is such a blatant political move before the elections , to gain some extra votes... is almost laughable.

Of course the end result will be stalemate and a complete waste of time.

not sure this changes thing either way.

also president in debate if asked can,t say look weak and say yes he would without some pre conditions

Iran will be happy to talk all the way to the point the get the bomb, and Maobama is fine with that. A promise to maybe talk is not a promise at all. When they shut down the centrafuges and come to the table then you will know their serious.

Exactly who would we be dealing with in these negotiations Ahmadinejad? Given the fact that he is more a spokesman for the Mullah's and religious clerics who are the true power in Iran than the President this seems to be more of a dog and pony show than anything else.
