So let me get this right... Through Government health care people will pay a fine for not having health care insurance, however the penalty will only be for those families who can afford to pay for it but do not... So who decides who can afford health care coverage? The Government????? :cuckoo:

So the bottom line is health care will be similar to what it is now and cost about the same being that the people who can afford it are paying for those who can't, yet it will be run by the Government instead of by the individual......WTF??????

Interview with the President: Jail Time for Those without Health Care Insurance? - Political Punch

Few people see the irony of the jail thing. Because in federal prison especially, it's very expensive to house, clothe, feed -- and yes provide comprehensive medical care -- to inmates. On the order of $40,000 annually per inmate.

I wonder who will be the one who bunks with Charlie Manson?
I can just see the hardened convicts circling around a couple of people who didn't pay for healthcare. Can anyone else get a mental image of this?
I guess this would be Obama's new and improved America.

I suppose I'll miss the dog, Rod and the cat but heck won't have to worry about food, heat, running water, how to pay the taxes on the house next year. I can picture gaining a few pounds there but wth.

Knowledge of this provision attempted by the Pelosi Democrats (who were congratulated for their efforts by Obama post-passage) is circulating across the country and even die-hard libs are horrified at the implications of fining and possibly imprisoning Americans who fail to pay their "fee".

And now Obama appears weak and uncertain yet again - and not entirely aware of what is actually going on around him by leaders from within his own party, stating he agrees with a fine, but not fully condoning prison time. (while not fully dismissing it either)

This healthcare bill is quickly becoming a heavy stone sinking the Democrats fast.

As predicted...

Don't forget free healthcare, including vision, and dental.

This was in their first bill as well. It's certainly nothing at all new, and I doubt anyone is "horrified" by it. By making it part of the tax code, and having the IRS enforce it, jail time IS a possibility, though of course we all know it'll never actually happen to anyone. They'll seize your property and all of your wages first.

Right?

I agree with what your saying MM, but the fact is that they do have the wording in the bill which prison could be an option, and that is very troublesome for me.

It should be troublesome for everyone.

But it's not.

That's the scary part.

I remember these same folks crapping themselves thinking Bush & Cheney were reading their e-mail.... now, jail time and fines for not buying insurance.... eh, no problem.

how many people do we jail a year for tax evasion?:eusa_whistle:

this will be no different....people will pay their taxes, cut a deal with the irs for a lesser amount or get their wages garnished....or even become incognito tax evaders....all before a jail sentence would ever even come in to play imo.

yes, as with ANY tax evasion, jail is a possibility....but 99.9% of the time, it is not the end result.

Yes....

Seizure of home and property and garnishee of wages always comes first. It's a property grab, of course all the seized homes go to ACORN and Americorps for low-income housing.

OBEY or else!

This shit, if it ever becomes Law, will be stricken down by the SCOTUS. It's unconstitutional.

How could any politician who still cares about our Constitution, vote in favor of this terrible Socialist Boondoggle? This really will be a good litmus test for showing which politicians really do or don't care about our Constitution and Freedom.

If memory serves, the linked article said that the Senate did not have this in their bill. So this means some major, drag out fighting over it in conference and the Senate usually wins that battle because they have less room for wiggle with the filibuster available, if they want a bill to pass both houses.

Wrong - Americans' collective attention is just now getting focused on this health care issue. (sad but true) And this prison stipulation is actually sinking in - and people are pissed.

As Krauthammer put it last week, "Pelosi is driving the Democrats off a cliff."

The Senate bill does not have these provisions, that is correct.

What will happen is, the Senate will pass a version, then the two versions will be combined behind closed doors and either given to the President to sign, or will be attached to an appropriations bill he will have to sign.

There's always a work-around.

Here's some good news for you (if Rod is your husband), they'll throw him in jail rather than you so you don't really have to worry about it, right?

Or maybe they will throw you both in jail and put the kids under state custody? How much is that going to cost us?

Immie

I don't know where you're getting that people's attention hasn't been on this until recently.

And Krauthammer's opinion mirrors the populist opinion, but the thing is these Dems believe they will be safe come 2010, those who are actually running that is. They believe the economy will be recovered or sold as recovered, enough to get the sheep back into the pen.

The fear of getting voted out is highly overrated, especially when one realizes not all that many Dems are even up for re-election this time around.

They don't see the cliff, and those who do deny its existence.

But you are missing a STEP in your speculation, once the bill comes out of conference, BOTH the Senate and the House have to vote on it again, with the compromises made in Conference? BEFORE the bill can go to the President to sign.... the Fat lady does not sing, until then Mid.

So, that is why i believe the Senate will have more pull on the conferenced bill...

Care it is in the house bill that just passed that you MAY receive jailtime if you fail to purchase insurance for yourself or your family.

Are you ok with that?
