Instead of the bailout.....

What if they spent $700 billion dollars on American Energy Indpendence?

Why don't they just send $3,500 to every taxpayer?

I think it is more lik $450 per person.

But you know why. The banks need money in order to feel good about loaning any out.

In other words, they won't risk their own money.

If that's true, then why do they get the big bucks? I thought they were rich because they were RISK TAKERS!!!

No, $700 billion dollars divided by 200 million taxpayers is $3,500.

And this solves?

It would solve more than what Bush wants to do. That would just make things worse.

All the things Bush said would happen if we didn't give him the money, will happen if we do give him the money.

He should be locked up.

I agree with what you said. But I just don't think giving $3,500 to each taxpayer is going to fix anything. IMO

For you Bush supporters ... remind me again what The Stimulus Package was suppose to do?

True.

Hey, this just in:

House Minority Leader John Boehner released a letter to House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, demanding that “serious consideration” be given to a radically different proposal that provides no government money up front for a financial rescue.

“If such consideration is not given, a large majority of Republicans cannot — and will not — support” the administration’s plan, Boehner wrote.

I wonder if this is going to make McCain look good. This looks like the GOP is pulling a mutiny on GW and the Democrats are caving to Bush.

Could this be the goal?

Bush wasn't the only one who proposed that bill, my dear. Pelosi was all over it.

js .... does it really matter who supported it? It was another "brain storm" of Bush, for a quick fix. It did nothing ... if it had ... would we be where we are in less than 6 months or however long ago the check's were first released?

Yes, it matters. Because it's tiring watching people blame Bush for EVERYTHING when he can do NOTHING without Congress's support. Don't get me wrong, I've hated Bush since before he was elected, but sometimes, it's just not all his fault.

And, it did SOMETHING. I bought school books with it. :D

Dude, think about how much Bush cost us. All the spending. All the bullshit tax breaks/loopholes to the rich that would have been money in our treasury. Iraq. Now this bail out. Iraq $20 billion x 12 ='s $240 billion a year. Tax breaks to the rich $100 billion a year. Now the bailout of $700 billion. He's costing us just over a trillion dollars and that's a safe estimate.

Just add up all the spending with all the tax breaks to the rich and boy did Bush really stick it to the middle class.

The poor won't carry more of the tax burden. So basically, all that debt goes right on our bmiddle class backs.

And now the GOP are playing us like a fiddle. They'll be against this bailout and the Dems will support it and the GOP will come out looking like the Dems are responsible for this bailout. That's the plan anyways.

Bush calls for the bailouts, Democrats jump on-board to making a resolution. I thought the last eight years would have taught these fools a lesson. Instead, they seem to listen to Bush and following his orders. Whatever happened to not trusting Bush. That he is for the rich? Now that Wall Street needs help, Democrats jump with Bush. Whoever wants this legislation passed ASAP should be voted off Congress.

The same people (Senate Banking Committee) that didn't do a thing years ago are now the ones with have to rely to solve the problem. They didn't know? Did they get the housing records that reach all-time highs during this decade.

Now they want to please Paulson, a guy who came from Wall Street, to provide Socialism to these failed institutions.

Despite anger of the taxpayers, Senator Reid said it's Wall Street and Main Street. What about the rest of Americans not involved in either of the two?

Everyone, quit paying your mortgages because bankruptcy court will help lower your monthly payments. Thank you government.
