I am currently reading The Tribe by James Bruno.

Mr. Bruno spent more than 2 decades in the diplomatic service. His writing shows a very deep knowledge of what is going on in Afghanistan, Pakistan and the other "stans" in the area.

I've only reached about chapter 20 of this novel and, as this guy really seems to know his stuff and is writing from experience, it scares the sheit out of me! He paints pictures of the bureaucrats and politicians running the whole thing and, if he's really telling it like it is, there are a whole lot of them sending our men and women into harm's way who can't get their heads out of their keisters!

I highly recommend this book to anyone who wishes to understand must of the behind the scenes that go on there and some insight into the players who are the ones who put our men and women in uniform in harm's way.
