I was accused by Two Thumbs of lying about the infant mortality because I stated that the US lagged behind most other industrial nations. By the very link in his own post, here are the deplorable facts.

The United Nations gives us a higher rating than our own CIA does.

Something to really be proud of, right?

The U.S. has a higher rate because of its black population. Black infants die at much higher rates because of the place of blacks on the r-K scale. You'll see uniformity for blacks on this, whether in the U.S. or Africa.

And what is the complexion of the top six?

Bermuda came under English control in the late 17th century. Slaves, most of them brought from Africa, came to outnumber the colonists. Today, three-fifths of the population are of African descent.

As usual, WJ, you are full of shit.

Look at this list.

Whatever explains Bermuda high on the list, the overwhelming overall pattern is whites high, browns lower, blacks lowest.

Figure in the U.S. as a mix of all those, and yes, it's going to land lower.

They have the highest abortion rate too.... why is this not important to the idiots who supposedly "worry" about infant mortality.

The reason why our infant mortality rate is so low on the list is because we count every single birth as a live birth and most other nations do not. In many other places, especially Europe, the baby has to meet certain requirements before it dies to be counted in their infant mortality rate so their numbers tend to be overly inflated. When you remove that from the equation, we're pretty much the same as Europe. There are also cultural and ethnic differences that also factor in.

This is a good article to read on the subject.

In Austria and Germany, fetal weight must be at least 500 grams (1 pound) to count as a live birth; in other parts of Europe, such as Switzerland, the fetus must be at least 30 centimeters (12 inches) long. In Belgium and France, births at less than 26 weeks of pregnancy are registered as lifeless.

Interesting read.

Damn. What percentage of babies are born at less than 26 weeks or one pound? We can do the math here if I can find it...

Are you really this stupid, or do you just play it on the internet?

We have been through this on several occasions, so if he is not that stupid, he is that dishonest.

I know. We've also debunked the "we rank 37th in the world in health care" myth for him on multiple occasions as well. Marxists like Old Rocks aren't interested in the truth. They just want to pimp their ideology even when it's proven to fail and if they have to lie to do it, so be it.

If you discounts blacks we rank higher in infant mortality? I bet we count them when it comes olympic medal time.

Does anyone know how many babies in the country are born under a pound? We can subtract that from our numbers if other countries dont count tiny babies and see where if fall.

Rocks what happens to those numbers when the Illegals who are here have their Stats taken out of ours?....just askin.....because a few months ago they had a write up about this and its effect in S.California.....when they took them out the numbers were somewhat different....many Illegals DO NOT go to a real doctor and if something happens to their babies during birth, its still a recorded stat that goes into the Stat Pool.....the report said the US moves up pretty far on the list when JUST US Citizens are included....AND it said one Countries qualifications to be on these International lists may vary compared to another......

So if we dont count black and illegals our healthcare system ranks higher? Can i not count my christian scientist neighbor or the guy next door who eats too much fast food and smokes?

Really, if we dont count illegals how much higher is our ranking?

Nothing she says NEGATES the fact that universal health care is a factor -- or in HER words

"They also convey little about why we lose nearly 28,000 babies a year, a starting point if we want to bring universal health to our nation's cradles."

Thanks for the helpfull and supportive link!
