The link between Mind and Social / Environmental-Issues.

The fast-paced, consumerist lifestyle of Industrial Society is causing exponential rise in psychological problems besides destroying the environment. All issues are interlinked. Our Minds cannot be peaceful when attention-spans are down to nanoseconds, microseconds and milliseconds. Our Minds cannot be peaceful if we destroy Nature.

The first rule of sustainability is - destroy less.

The fewer things we make the more sustainable we are.

A society that destroys ecosystems for "consumer goods" in addition to food, clothing, shelter is the least sustainable - and will exist for the shortest duration.

Industrial society has destroyed necessary things [animals, trees, air, water and land] for making unnecessary things [consumer goods].

In "Industrial Society" work turns into overwork, unnecessary work, destructive work.

"Growth Rate" - "Economy Rate" - "GDP"
    These are figures of "Ecocide".
These are figures of "crimes against Nature".
These are figures of "destruction of Ecosystems".
These are figures of "Insanity, Abnormality and Criminality".

Infinite growth and development on a small planet that is just 40,000 km in circumference? - Industrial Society is insane.

    Of course it does.
    Everyone knows that.
Most everyone chooses to ignore it.

Industrial society is just another era for humanity. One that is nearly over, as we are finding limits that we either will respect, or that will end our society before we can develop a sustainable lifestyle, and a sane relationship with the planet we live on.

Without the industrial society that you bemoan, we could not have reached to point today where almost anyone in the world can instantly communicate with anyone else. In fact, we have just scratched the surface of the potential of that development, both in terms of consumers and producers, or in terms of development of society.

One such effect, much hated by Conservatives, is that anyone can investigate what the scientists are telling us concerning the world we live on. When a scientists states that glaciers in a certain area are melting, all one has to do is contact the geology department of the nearest university, and they will have figures concerning that glacier. Then, if you have concerns about their reporting, you can always go to Google Earth.

An average citizen can now do real research that previously only those with access to univeristy level libraries could do. The fact that most do not, and will not, is a reflection of the rejection of the very tools that enable this society to advance. And strangely, it is the Conservatives that seem to have the greatest trouble accepting what science has to say, on almost any subject. Perhaps that is the reason for the very low number of Conservatives that have degrees in science.

The "evil industrial society" is what allows idiots like the OP time to post on message boards instead of having to spend all day scrounging for food.

Science is the epitome of man's ego. Ultimately a waste of time but it makes for some good entertainment to watch us pretend that we are going somewhere.
