It would be interesting to hear some views on this matter!

Ever since 9/11 it seems that Amercian citizens has pushed the government to an increasing level of control. This is seen in practice regarding freedom of speech, having the government able to monitor you, minute changes in how laws are interpreded, the Miranda right change and an overall slight shift of power from citizens to government.

Also media seems to have turned into a point-of-view-machine rather than critically monitor the world, making the "little man" an easy target of both propaganda and renders him virtually unable to excess this freedom of speech.

It doesn't appear to be a left/right issue since examples are vast ranging from t-shirts with christian text about homosexuals getting banned in school to arrested pacificts against war in the streets.

Do you think there will be a going back? Or will this trend continue?

sorry wrong thread

But I suppose it still applies

It will continue, unless the people admit that our government is plundering

The following is a good read, full and common sense.
The Law

The State is also subject to Malthus’s Law. It tends to exceed the level of its means of existence, it expands in line with its means and what keeps it in existence is the substance of the people. Misfortune thus afflicts those peoples who cannot limit the sphere of action of the State. Freedom, private activity, wealth, well-being, independence and dignity will all disappear. ~Frédéric Bastiat's~

But after every war things have gotten back to how it was before. Now the war enters a phase with low intensity, but more control is still handed to the state... is something different with USA now, compared to mid 1900?

Yes, people are not willing to fight socialism and hold government to account for the plundering legal and illegal. Our people became complacent and distracted by all the PC and other great things the government decided to hoist upon us in bad economic times, we have turned a blind eye for quite sometime and trusted what the media was telling us
