What is the justification for income redistribution? Isn't it just punishing success?

Why has so much income been redistributed to the wealthy?

If total wealth in the US were a pie to be divided by ten people..

One person would get nine slices while the other nine would fight over the remaining slice.

There is only a need for redistribution, when the wealth, and pay, has been so massively maldistributed from the start.
When you've got an economy like ours, that is failing so miserably because our congress has given every advantage to the rich, by punishing the middle class and poor, then not only is redistribution not a bad thing, but redistributing the maldistributed income is absolutely necessary.
