Debate Now Incivility

Check all that apply. IMO, people are generally uncivil because:

  • 1. They don't know any better.

  • 2. It is fun and/or feels good.

  • 3. Idiots deserve to be put down.

  • 4. It is the only way to be taken seriously.

  • 5. They don't want to be seen as a goody two shoes.

  • 6. Because everybody else does it.

  • 7. It is a way to relieve their frustrations.

  • 8. They are social misfits.

  • 9. To cover up their ignorance or insecurities.

  • 10. Other (and I'll explain in my post)

When that occurs, a good strategy is to de-structure the arguments of that person.

The goal is to break down that person's posts into smaller and more succinct bits, to get to the bottom of it.

In a nutshell, boiling it down. Down to the 'why.'

But sometimes even a 'why?' is a combative term. And on a fast moving thread it is difficult to keep a continuous thought in focus to break it down into smaller, more manageable context.

This graphic sort of fits with the concept of this thread:

What is the driving force behind the PC culture that demands that everybody see everything just alike? For instance:

1. What are racist terms
2. Agreement that the definition of marriage should be changed
3. Our political views and/or ideology
4. What is sexist
5. Etc.

(And no, I do not want this thread to veer off into a discussion of those controversial issues.)

The person who thinks the other person used a word that is an affront to some protected group will then use the most hateful and insulting language to punish or denigrate that other person because he/she used a word or disagreed with something deemed politically incorrect.

I honestly don't understand that kind of rationale or why some set themselves up as the judge and jury of all.
