In Japan, migrant raids and deportations turned into TV entertainment

AS JAPAN predicts a rise in the number of immigrants and foreign tourists in the coming years, a new television show has turned migrant deportations into entertainment.

The program provoked some outraged viewer reactions and insights about the plight faced by visa overstayers and undocumented migrants in Japan.

Taikyo no Shunkan (タイキョの瞬間), which translates to “At the very moment they were deported” in English, premiered on Fuji Television in a Saturday evening prime time slot on Oct 6, 2018.

Using a typical reality show format, the two-hour program follows a group of so-called “G-Men”, or immigration officers, employed by the Tokyo regional office of the National Immigration Bureau as they hunt down visa overstayers and so-called “illegal aliens” (fuhotaizaisha, 不法滞在者) and squatters on camera.

Actually, HBO and Discovery are already taking on this subject. HBO has a movie called "Icebox", which covers a young boy who crossed the border and was processed. Haven't seen it yet, but it's on my "to watch" list.

And, Discovery Channel is going to have a show coming up next year that is called "Border Live". It has people embedded with the BP agents, and they tape it in real time, kinda like COPs.

About The Show - Border LIVE | Discovery

The United States’ southern border is the most talked about border in the world. Despite border issues being a constant part of the zeitgeist, most people still have no idea what really goes on here there. Now, for the first time ever and with never before granted access to some of the most elite officers and agents working along the border, Discovery will transport viewers live to the border to experience what it is like, as it happens, on BORDER LIVE. Hosted by Bill Weir and featuring in-studio experts, BORDER LIVE will embed with the men and women of Homeland Security Investigations (HSI) and Customs and Border Protection (CBP) as well as local agencies across the southern border and share their stories in real time. Also in the field, Senior Correspondent Lilia Luciano will tackle stories that exist outside of law enforcement, providing a deeper more immersive look at the lives and actions of real people along the border. Raw, unfiltered and non-political, BORDER LIVE will immerse viewers into 1,954 miles of border and all sides of the story.

If they showed the migrants beaten to a bloody mess it will help to stop the illegals from trying to get in. Use baseball bats wrapped with barbed wire.

What does the term "migrant raids" really mean? It's hard to migrate to a freaking island isn't it?
It happens all the time in Florida-from the water.
The term "migrant" generally refers to a pickup truck of fruit pickers or a group of illegal aliens looking for a ride and a job. Floating rafts of humanity don't generally fall into the category of migrants. My guess is that a floating mob of illegal Swedes or Danes would be easily recognized in Japan and not be categorized as "migrants" while they are quickly arrested and deported.

No thanks. I can see it now, (violins playing) young innocent boy wants to come to America, and the gestapo border agents dressed in Darth Vader attire breathing hard drag the little boy away.

In one segment, the immigration officers stake out the apartment of a Vietnamese man suspected of violating the conditions of his trainee visa. He and two others are arrested and interrogated on camera before being deported 24 hours later.

In another segment, the immigration officers storm a factory and detain a group of Indians suspected of being undocumented workers — the owners of the factory never appear on camera.

A final segment investigates the problem of Chinese “squatters” who have set up a vegetable patch on public land on an isolated stretch of riverbank in Kyoto.

For now, a fan upload of the video of the entire program can be viewed on DailyMotion.

The content and tone of Taikyo no Shunkan was widely criticized, with Japanese anti-racism group Counter-Racist Action Collective (C.R.A.C.) noting that Japan's Immigration Bureau, which employs the featured “G-Men”, actively promoted the program:

I'm certain Japan also has their share of self-loathing liberals eager to see their country overran with the third-world.

Like the west, Japan's birth rate is pathetic, and like the west they've made their own bed for the future.

Looking it up, I found many Japanese had migrated to Brazil for jobs years back, and then are trying to get them to come home.

I do not mean to be disrespectful but it is hard to imagine people like you actually exist.

Believe it Vikrant, and, there are many others on this board who think like her. There are some who believe that when the active duty military was deployed to the border, they should have shot anyone who tried to cross, and there are still others who think we should lay landmines on the border.

Both excellent ideas. Opening the border to hunters and pay a bounty is also a good idea.
