Immigrants Less Likely to Commit Crimes

Crime is good for the economy. Ask Bernard Madoff. Yep. Well, until you get caught. Hiring illegal aliens? Priceless.

El Paso TEXAS, is also the ONLY state that carries out executions. Anybody who claims that capital punishment is not a deterent has mush for brains.

Actually, you'll find that empirical research into the deterrence effect of capital punishment seems somewhat problematic. For example, Zimmerman's Estimates of the Deterrent Effect of Alternative Execution Methods in the United States: 1978-2000 notes that "[t]he empirical estimates suggest that the deterrent effect of capital punishment is driven primarily by executions conducted by electrocution. None of the other four methods of execution (lethal injection, gas chamber asphyxiation, hanging, and/or firing squad) are found to have a statistically significant impact on the per capita incidence of murder." That doesn't seem to be at all a sound conclusion, which indicates that there are methodological deficiencies present in the existing empirical research that corrupt the accuracy of their findings.

If ONE illegal kills ONE american, it's ONE TOO MANY.

That's wrong from a perspective that utilizes cost/benefit analysis. Just as one could not use this story about an illegal immigrant turned life-saving brain surgeon to argue that that anecdotal case warranted easing restrictions on immigration, neither can anecdotal reports of immigrant crime serve as sufficient basis for warranting increased restrictions. To form a sound basis for policy formation, only valid empirical research is acceptable, which would mean statistical analysis of large data sets.

Everyone in El Paso packs.

That's not a wise approach to take, considering that studies into increased lethality caused by firearm prevalence find a causative link. For example, refer to Duggan's More Guns, More Crime.

This paper examines the relationship between gun ownership and crime. Previous research has suffered from a lack of reliable data on gun ownership. I exploit a unique data set to reliably estimate annual rates of gun ownership at both the state and the county levels during the past two decades. My findings demonstrate that changes in gun ownership are significantly positively related to changes in the homicide rate, with this relationship driven almost entirely by an impact of gun ownership on murders in which a gun is used. The effect of gun ownership on all other crime categories is much less marked. Recent reductions in the fraction of households owning a gun can explain one‐third of the differential decline in gun homicides relative to nongun homicides since 1993.

Research is fun! :)

This is an example of a relatively ignorant and uninformed observer eschewing empirical research in favor of personal experiences and anecdotal speculation, evidently not realizing that the widely varying spectrum of human experiences and the general heterogeneity of the population renders such speculation absolutely useless as a basis for policy formation. It's an unfortunately common behavior, however.

Hi Agnapostate:

You cannot be serious. Agnaprostate is pandering to Open Border Lobby idiots working every damned day for the destruction of the USA by the desolution of American Borders and American Sovereignty. Linda made the excellent point that one American life is not worth having your 20-Million-Man Illegal Alien Labor Pool for Unscrupulous American Contractors/Corporations.

Agnaprostate is the one who is DEAD WRONG for even intimating that cost/benefits are equal to the lost of even one American life, because Senor Bushie and Senor Obama refuse to 'enforce' the Rule Of Law (Wiki)!!!! Twenty Five U.S. Citizens are killed by Illegal Alien Foreign Nationals in the USA EVERY DAMNED DAY (12 by murder) and each one represents the responsibility of the out-of-control Bushie and Obama Administrations. Those among you defending these Corrupt and Murderous Administrations can stand with the guilty parties at the Judgment 'and' suffer the same fate in the Lake Of Fire (Rev. 20:10-15, 21:8) 'and' be visited by each and every victim for all the ages to come.

Just the notion that "only valid empirical research is acceptable" for drawing informed/moral conclusions on these important 'legal issues' is the height of arrogance and absolute stupidity :)cuckoo:). Agnaprostate is willing to sacrifice American lives for the sake of financial gain to unscrupulous U.S. Employers 'hiring' Illegal Alien Foreign Nationals that 'displace' U.S. Workers from JOBS, which is a direct violation of Federal Law BEFORE 25 U.S. Citizens are killed each and every day.

Far too many Stupid Americans with Agnaprostate's chilling attitude is reason #11 (my post) that the USA will certainly be destroyed from the face of the earth (my Topic).

Terral

Sound empirical research would certainly serve you far better than your WorldNutDaily links. And incidentally, there's no claim made that illegal immigration reduces employment; you're apparently confused about the claims of their presence resulting in wage reductions for low-skilled native workers.

[I......]An exception more than the rule.........[/I]....if more illegals turned into life-saving brain surgeons, then by all means let them ALL in.....but.....any guarantees???? Increased restrictions are warranted if this country wants to keep from becoming another third world country. What? Are we the ONLY country who has restrictions?????? THIS IS ABOUT ILLEGAL ENTRY AND NOT CONTROLLED LEGAL ENTRY!

if we had no illegal alien crime, we would have no crime at all. MS13 and all sorts of crimes are being committed by illegal aliens.

Yeah, anecdotal reports never are meant to prove anything but rather to serve as stats and stats are only as good and believable as the stat takers who have no problem in tweaking them to go their way. I would venture to say that drawing on statistical analysis also demonstrates nothing - absolutely. When talking about illegal migration, the proof is in the pudding. Do you ever bother to look out your window???

Are there any specific methodological deficiencies that you can cite in the empirical research provided?
