I'm Depressed

The secret service is not out of money

Actually, they kinda are. They have already hit the spending limit on their budget and we're only halfway through the year.

Secret Service out of money to pay agents because of Trump's frequent travel, large family

WASHINGTON — The Secret Service can no longer afford to pay hundreds of agents it needs to carry out an expanded protective mission – in large part due to the sheer size of President Trump's family and efforts necessary to secure their multiple residences up and down the East Coast.

Secret Service Director Randolph "Tex'' Alles, in an interview with USA TODAY, said more than 1,000 agents have already hit the federally mandated caps for salary and overtime allowances that were meant to last the entire year.

The agency has faced a crushing workload since the height of the contentious election season, and it has not relented in the first seven months of the administration. Agents must protect Trump – who has traveled almost every weekend to his properties in Florida, New Jersey and Virginia – and his adult children whose business trips and vacations have taken them across the country and overseas.

Wrong, because they are not allowed to be out of money................

Seriously it's impossible unless the USA has defaulted on it's debt
But Trump is heading to Camp David, which he said was interesting for about 30 minutes, every weekend. Maybe he'll just stay home and bowl for the rest of the year.

Trump can go anywhere he wants, but he will never go anywhere without the secret service. The amazing thing is that you twits think that he directs the secret service or orders them around. He doesn't and he is not responsible for what they do or spend

No, actually, protection is decided by a Congressional committee who decides if he warrants protection or not.

FAQs

  • Who receives protection?
The Secret Service DOES NOT determine who qualifies for protection, nor is the Secret Service empowered to independently initiate candidate protection.

Under 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7), "[m]ajor Presidential and Vice Presidental candidates," as identified by the Secretary of Homeland Security, are eligible for Secret Service protection.

Title 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7) authorizes the U.S. Secret Service to provide protection for major presidential and vice presidential candidates:
    • Protection is authorized by the DHS Secretary after consultation with the Congressional Advisory Committee
    • The Congressional Advisory Committee includes: Speaker of the House, House Minority Leader, Senate Majority Leader, Senate Minority Leader, and one additional member selected by the others
Criteria have been established to assist the DHS Secretary and the advisory committee in their decision making (as of 2008). Candidates must:
    • Be publicly announced
    • Have some degree of prominence as shown by opinion polls
    • Be actively campaigning and entered in at least 10 state primaries
    • Be seeking the nomination of a qualified party
    • Have qualified for matching funds in the amount of at least $100,000
    • Have received contributions totaling $10 million
Title 18 U.S.C.' 3056(a)(7) states that the U.S. Secret Service is also authorized to protect spouses of major Presidential and Vice Presidential candidates, as identified by the DHS Secretary, within 120 days of the general Presidential election. Some candidates have received protection earlier in the campaign pursuant to Presidential memoranda.
    • What is the history of candidate/nominee protection?
Candidate and nominee protection was expanded to include major candidates for president and vice president in 1968:
      • Major candidates and their spouses began receiving protection after the assassination of Robert Kennedy in 1968. PL-90-331 was passed June 6, 1968. (Language since adopted into 3056).
      • Prior to this event, candidates and their families did not receive Secret Service protection
      • Protection of a candidate/nominee is designed to maintain the integrity of the democratic process and continuity of government
I DO remember that Trump was the first candidate to request Secret Service protection.

In that he determines where he goes, when, on unofficial trips, he does have some responsibility for the Sec. Service burning through their funds before the year was up. It is very expensive for them to follow him to Mar A Lago, his golf clue in Virginia, etc. It's a real circus securing those locations for him and he was doing it about every weekend. That costs money.

Pull your hair out, perhaps he will visit you in the wiggy store

Sorry, never politicized it. You did. I simply posted a FAQ about how SS protection is determined and who does it.

Dude you are wrong, Presidential candidates get secret service protection before they are even elected, during the debate phase. No one approves this, it is law

If you had bothered to read the FAQ I posted, it says that they get protection before they are elected when they become a viable candidate. And, it even says in some cases that protection can be awarded early, and in Trump's case it was.

So in some delusional twist of reality. Trump was awarded protection and this is his fault

I have no problem with anyone who is elected getting SS protection. But, I DO think that it should extend to only his IMMEDIATE family, him, wife, and kids, no more than that.

And yeah, I do kinda fault him for spending money like a drunken sailor on his weekend getaways. I also fault him for the extra money spent so that his wife could stay in NYC for as long as she did.

America elected Trump because he was different. Do you favor a law restricting the Presidency to people with only one child who are peanut farmers.

How come you never complained when Mike Obama went on the Ellen show 3 times and exposed his penis?

That cost money too
