Arizona drug-smuggling ring busted

Tucson, Arizona – A “Key Mexican drug cartel member” was arrested along with 16 others in a Sting Operation that took down “The Casa Grande drug-smuggling organization.”
The organization operated in 5 Arizona cities and was smuggling drugs through the West desert into Phoenix. The bust took place in the wee hours of the morning on Thursday 10/13/11. The agents were armed with twelve search warrants and over a dozen different law enforcement agencies.
The organization smuggled about 50,000 pounds of pot a month from Mexico to the U.S. An ongoing investigation of the drug ring has been going on for over a year.
Law enforcement officers arrested 17 people and seized 12 weapons and $35k in cash. The drug bust also yields 1000 pounds of pot and 1000 rounds of ammunition. On the local news the busts showed small children being escorted by swat officers to safety.
The U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), Homeland Security Investigations (HIS) and Pinal County Sheriff's Office lead the way as more than a dozen law agencies took down the dangerous illegal alien criminals.
“Sheriff Paul Babeu said, "We appreciate the assistance of our federal law enforcement partners with this large-scale investigation. Together we were able to disrupt a major drug-smuggling operation which in turn has had a significant effect on the Mexican drug cartel behind it. We will continue to bring the heavy hand of enforcement to those who think they can smuggle drugs or humans through Pinal County."”
