The same bullshit promises were made on the casino vote yet the money didn't goto the schools as promised.

Vote NO and hold our elected idiots responsible!

Hate the look of cigarette butts on the shore of my favorite park lake and all over the street at the stop light down the road. If for no other reason than that I am voting yes on any tobacco tax. Americans are just too dumb to smoke responsibly.

Oh, and yes I am aware the money from gambling just lowers the amount of other money spent on schools. Common sense.

Mo. casino revenue for schools falls short of projections : Stltoday

Missouri schools could face a $24 million funding shortfall because tax revenue from casinos is falling short of projections.

Gaming Commission Executive Director Roger Stottlemyre warned the state's budget director of the funding gap in a letter sent just before Christmas and provided Wednesday to The Associated Press. Stottlemyre said casino proceeds for education were expected to be almost $372 million this year but instead will be $348 million.

"The slow economic recovery continues to severely impact the base gaming forecast," Stottlemyre said.

So the schools are definitely getting money from the casinos. It just isn't as much as was projected because people are cutting back on entertainment expense.

Nothing surprising or nefarious there.

I doubt cigarette consumption is as greatly affected when the economy tanks.

Evidence?

Vote NO and hold our elected idiots responsible!

This sounds like a TV ad.

How does voting against a cigarette tax hold politicians responsible?

.

Because they made the same damn promises with taxes on casinos and it didn't happen. Not to mention my property taxes keep going up to "pay" for schools and NOTHING changes

It seems like it is more common sense that taxes would not have to be raised on income or property if casinos were footing the bill.

What didn't happen? Casino money is going to the schools. I just posted the evidence.

How do you know your property taxes are going up as much as they would without the casino money? And how do you know they are going up to pay for schools and not for something else?

Like public employee pensions.

Because our property taxes specifically detail what school district they are applied too. I live in one of the most prosperous school districts. Our schools grow and grow every year. New buildings, new swimming pools, new tennis courts, new buildings built specifically for sporting events. Yet the ciggarette tax will go not to my school district but those of failing schools. Schools that arent failing economically but academically. On top of that the children from failing schools are bussed out here.
Half the cost of a pack of smokes is already a tax and now they want to increase it by nearly a dollar a pack? And I'm not much of a smoker.

Lets just tax one industry out of business and then wonder where the funds went.

Dumb

On top of that people that won't be the least bit impacted get to vote on the proposition. Shouldn't those with children in the system have some fucking skin in the game?

Cigarette taxes were supposed to goto healthcare. That, I understand. All other uses are a result of fiscal irrisponsibility and should be declined at the polls. Hold our elected officials responsible
