At the very least, decriminalize it. These men and women are not hurting anybody and may be providing a much needed service. How the prostitutes look at themselves for this, is their issue and not ours. JMHO.

I read that differently to you. It seemed to me that the State had itself become the new pimp forcing women against their will into the sex industry.

Decriminalisation is one thing. Getting tax is too and both can be arranged. I know Edinburgh set something up many years ago, but this is talking about the State being able to force women into the sex industry or starve. They should have taken the time to ensure this was not included as a job people could be forced to do.

Germany sometimes runs into moral dilemmas. It had a tough time figuring out that cannibalism even if done as consensual gay sex was wrong.

Unemployment Agency doesn't send women to brothels.
But before 2006 the Agency has given subsidies to unemployed women who wanted to become self-employed Prostitutes. They could receive 3-year subsidies if their income was low.
It wasn't a special program for Prostitutes, these cases were individual cases.

There are underground-brothels and there are legal brothels who pay taxes and unemployment/health insurance for their employees.
If a brothel-owner wants a bartender or a cleaning-lady they have the right to contact Unemployment Agency.
Unemployment Agency doesn't connect Prostitutes to brothel-owners.

Unemployment Agency will also send a Christian into a Halal slaughterhouse or a Muslim into slaughterhouse were swines are processed.

Up until this, I was all in favor of decriminalizing prostitution, but if you are going to take away someone's benefits because they refuse to be a prostitute???? That's just wrong.

I'm glad it's not true, but it doesn bring up a scary issue. If prostitution is legal...can we take away someone's benefits for not taking a job as a prostitute? Can we take away their benefits if they refuse any job? If so, seems to me if prostitution is legal we'd have to take them away for refusing that too. Just scary stuff....

No we don't. I support unemployment insurance for 13 weeks as has been historically the case. In an economy like we've had since the Democrats took over Congress, an extension to 26 weeks is fine with me, but 99weeks?
Welfare? If you become ill or disabled and can't feed your family, I'm willing to help you out, but let's not make welfare a career choice for you and your ancestors.
Beyond a very limited time, it is not the obligation of taxpayers to support people unwilling to live up to their responsibilities.

As far as I know, unemployment benefits are paid by the employer into a fund. If someone does not wish to pay into the fund, they can elect not to be an employer.

As far as I know, unemployment benefits are paid by the employer into a fund. If someone does not wish to pay into the fund, they can elect not to be an employer.

Both employer and employee pay into the fund. Although the employee contribution is not direct.
