If You Can Believe This................

And Sharia, and most of the continent of Africa and most of the Asian continent and and and. You anti religious zealots are just as bad as the religious ones. Just leave them alone and they'll leave you alone. This isn't the high middle ages anymore. Well it is in Islamic countries for the most part, but not here in the west, no matter how much you try and make people think otherwise.

And religious persecution doesn't even come close to the body count of atheist socialist countries. And those countries blew past all the religious murders, that took thousands of years to accomplish, in decades.

And was this immense body count the result of atheism or the dogmatic following of a political ideology?

A combination of both. The ideology drove them, the atheism removed the brakes that compassionate people exhibit.

Do you have any evidence whatsoever that shows that a person who doesn't believe in God is any less moral than a person who does believe in God, all things being equal? If you don't, then your assertion that atheism somehow removed the inhibition of compassionate people to commit atrocities has no basis in reality.

As a rule most religious people have a void in their lives that they feel needs to be filled. Example: Harold Camping and his Family Radio. This guy was exposed as a fraud in May of this year, changes his story of when the "end of the world" happens and has a net worth (his church) of over $103,000,000.00!! Seriously!!! That's not the only example: Any of the televised mega churches. They are worth hundreds of millions of dollars. There "leaders" lead lives of luxury while their congregations still give them their hard earned money. Are these people that blind to what is happening around them?
Take prayer: People will pray and pray and pray. If they get what they want then God is all powerful. If it doesn't happen then God "works in mysterious ways".

:cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo::cuckoo:

I am a strong Agnostic. Organized religion is a cancer on this planet. Pray for me if you feel the need or damn me to Hell. I don't care. It won't change my life one bit and I'll bet I'm happier than most of you "people of faith".

:lol::lol::lol::lol:

Wow... When I go to church this Sunday, I'll pray for you.
I'm going to pray for you.

that does not include the WWII casualties.
Yeah WWII didn't have any religious overtones. We can coerce these labels of "religious" or "cultural" but the fact is they really aren't all that different. These types of mass killings always come back to one group having a blind believe that the other group's way of life or belief deserves to be snuffed out. Does it really matter if it's belief in deity or politics or shopping list?

Actually I think there was some evidence on this topic. But it showed the opposite findings. Atheists areas have lower crime. Predominantly Atheist Countries Have Lowest Crime Rate According To Study - Nairaland

LOL...the crusades, the witch hunts, the inquisitions, the slavery, etc. There's never been a single entity in the history of mankind which has taken out more humans in such a calloused way as Christianity. Especially when you add the results of George W. Bush's "Crusade In Iraq!" That's where he said God told him to invade when in reaity the mere fact that Saddam Hussein tried to assasinate his daddy in 1993 caused the whole thing. Ever hear of Texas Justice?"

Care to provide links proving that ? You hang out at town hall ? Oh, and will you pleas post quotes for your scriptures too?

Long ago when I was actually studying it the atheism of the Soviet leadership was very evident. The widespread persecution of those of a religious bent was likewise well documented. The same occured in Nazi Germany to a lesser extent and China was even worse then Stalins Russia.

My interpretation of the lack of compassion is my own. It is based on many different philosophers and historians interpretations of the actions of the countries involved. It is most philosophers opinions that the lack of religious conviction allowed the rulers to be so extremely callous towards their victims because they had no fear of retribution in the afterlife.

If you do even a cursory survey you will find out for yourself.

.................right here amidst the bible belt today I watched a really touching "Jesus Ad." Yes sport's fans the church is having to resort to TV commercials in the southern United States. I'm in east Tennessee.

The church supported infant baptism for a thousand years. When most of the public rejected the concept that an innocent child might go to hell they stopped. The scripture is still there.

They hunted, tortured and murdered witches for thousands of years but when the general population found out there was no such thing as witchcraft...they stopped doing harm to innocent young women. The scripture is still there.

The church supported and sometimes accomodated slavery for more than 5000 years but when it was no longer in the vogue they stopped. The scripture is still there.

The bible is written with the submission of women as a sub plot. The church supported that for thousands of years but about the time the civil rights act was passed in 1965 they shut up about it. The scripture is still there.

Gays have never been accepted by any church. They have been placed at the bottom of civilized mankind's totem pole but recently some churches have supported inviting them into their congregations. The scripture is still there.

To anyone who is so thick that they cannot see that the church will do or say anything in order to keep folks dropping around on Sunday mornings...I'm sorry for you.
I am sorry for you. You should probably believe the Bible and not the Church. I would get into more of what you posted but I do not want to waste my time. Goodbye.

Sounds like to me after I read you OP that maybe you should spend a little more time in church...

I was baptized before a congregation of nearly 1000 on a spring morning in 1957. I lived in the church until I was over sixty years old. I taught Sunday school, worked with RA boys, belonged to the Brotherhood, worked with the building committee, went on religious retreats, helped with vacation bible school in the summers, visited the sick on Tuesday evenings, attended prayer meeting on Wednesdays, we tithed our gross and gave special gifts to drives like Lottie Moon etc. I used to look around the sanctuary on Sunday mornings and wonder...do those people really believe that the almighty creator of the universe dropped by during the stone/bronze age and left the only keys to the kingdom with a mob of ignorant sheep herders who believed in witches and thought the earth was flat?

One more thing...I was draft age then and after I had essentially memorized the new testament, chapter and verse and was giving testimony in small towns close by as a routine part of my church activities the pastor offered to get me ordained as a Baptist minister so I could stay home. I went into the army infantry.

Taught Sunday School, RAs, etc. did ya now? Well, I'm sure your efforts were blessed by God. After all, it wouldn't be the first time God spoke through the jawbone of an ass.

I am not big on mans religions ,I believe many religions have a god behind them but not the one true GOD.

Religion has brought shame on the true God and in Revelations God said he will punish them.

I call myself agnostic. I don't know if there's anything after this lifetime but if there is we will all get an equal shot at it not just a small percentage of people who believe a 2000 year old fairy tale written by people who believed in witchcraft and thought the earth was flat.

As far as the prayer thing...I witnessed that first hand. In the late 1930's and 1940's I attended Wednesday evening prayer meeting with my family. Back then each family had a member or friend who was dying of heart problems or cancer. Prayer lists were a foot long and no telling how many billions of prayers were said across the Christian nations. People prayed till their knees were sore and folks just kept on suffering and dying. See...there was no treatment for heart disease and the only thing that medical people knew to do for cancer was surgery. Following the surgery the tumor usually metasticized and spread and the patient was dead within 6-18 months.

Now with diet control, sophisticated diagnostic machines, blood thinners, stents, bypasses, transplants, robotic surgical techniques, chemo, radiation, stem cell transplants etc. the same kinds of patients live on into their 80's and sometimes 90's.

God either ignored the billions of prayers or elected not to answer them. My take on it is that he either

1) Doesn't Exist
2) Doesn't Give A Damn

Oh...the life expectancy actuarial tables from the 1940's compared to those of today will prove the death rates from heart disease and cancer.
