If wind and solare power are so great then why is Germany so desperate for coal ?

Why are conservatives so intimidated by wind and solar?
" intimitated "? Hahaha how funny. That`s like saying a nerd on a scooter is intimitating a semi which would not even notice the impact should he choose to roadkill him.
Conventional power turbines are rated in Gigawatts:

And wind turbines in mere Megawatts:
windtech.jpg

Which is not any more power than 3 modern mini-vans or a single diesel engine which fits on a utility trailer can put out....and costs a tiny fraction of this toy- "power plant", trailer included !
So, we have all our eggs in one basket, one that can easily be controlled by a mega-corporation. We already know what happens then. Wind and solar can deliver the same amount of electricity, but from many different sites and owners. So there is competition for the market, and, therefore, cheaper electrical rates. Also, as individuals, if we have a home with sun exposure, we can create and store our own electricity, thank you, Mr. Musk.

"All the eggs in 1 basket...easily controlled by a mega- corporation"...Is that the best argument you have against all power generation technology except wind and solar?
That is laughable. The energy market in the US and everywhere else where you have a free market economy functions the same as any other commodity market. Producers sell their product in this case it is electrical energy to buyers who compete for it on the stock& futures exchange market who then distribute it to the consumer. And you figure you could sell your wind or solar power (if you had it) to just anybody.
The only one who would be buying it is the corporation which currently supplies your grid power.
But according to your theory that corporation can not be controlled by a so called mega-corporation ever.
And after all of that you still don`t have a power on demand system which is the key requirement.
I know...next thing is you get to avoid the "mega corporation" straw man argument you started with and it`s back again to your Tesla super battery pipe dream which can take care of an entire country....The same Tesla fraud which charges $ 40 000 for a iddy-biddy car battery that can only give you energy on a Kw hours scale instead of Giga Watthours as a large city...never mind a whole country does need.
Let`s price that idea of your`s:
1 Gigawatt = 1 000 000 Kw and then plug in your best shot for a Tesla battery in $ per Kw hours.
After you did that tell me again that small individual companies as in your dreamt up scheme can come up with that kind of dough or if it would take some "mega-corporation".
I doubt there would be one which would risk the kind of money needed for a battery like that which gets "bricked"/trashed if you pushed it to max-capacity once too often...which you can do with impunity as often as you like with conventional power plants.

Renewables just aren't going to cut it....ever.

When asked by Spiegel if it would not be better to invest the money in renewable energies, Hansen scoffs at the question:

"More renewable energies? You’re joking. The subsidies set aside for renewable energies are forcing consumers to pay higher rates – a sort of invisible tax. The power bill keeps rising, but the customer does not know why.”

Even a top shelf wack job like hansen gets it...what put you so far behind the curve rocks?

Renewables just aren't going to cut it....ever.
Beginning with the term "renewable" which is a typical liberal pc oxymoron that exploits the ambiguity of this word in the English language. They use it to give their naive followers the impression that it is a concept akin to recycling. Thus these people are conditioned to "think" that energy can be recycled much the same as it`s been done with the energy in the global warming energy budget. With the latter one they manage to (almost) get away with it because the energy flows only in so called "thought experiments" and ridiculous computer models where a lower energy can be added to a higher one to increase it...while in the real world of energy the lower one acts like a load instead of a source of "new" power....else the laws of physics would allow for a perpetual motion machine that can generate "new" energy...constantly "renewing" it.
People like OldRocks etc believe you can stack the AC power in a power grid like DC flash light batteries where a phase angle has no role.
They are so childish to think because you can: +1.5VoltsDC - ....+1.5VDC- .....+1.5VDC- ....+1.5VDC- gives a +6VoltDC- battery. Like so:
series-batteries-1.png

So why not connect windmills or solar in series instead of parallel to solve the problem....totally ignoring the fact that windmills generate AC and the only way Solar can add to the grid is by converting it to AC also.
The only way these bozos realize that their "thought experiment" runs afoul with reality is if they put one of the 4 batteries into a flashlight the wrong way around and wonder why it won`t light up.
But that won`t matter in their political science fiction world. Hell no, in it you can stack up cold and warm temperatures like DC flash light batteries so that [+14C]-[+1C] gives you +15C and not [14+1]/2 = +7.5C

Ever notice that the best old rocks can do is post funny at the bottom of a post...or post up some inane opinion piece as a reply...laughing like a monkey in a tree while the tree is being cut from underneath him...typical liberal thinking...if you can call it thought.

Yes I noticed. Just like it`s easy to notice which one is the liberal opinion rep on a TV discussion.
It`s the one with the perpetually stupid smile even when the point he/she/it is trying to defend has been blown clear out of the water. It`s part of the liberal game plan to fake intellect or to know better and the main part of the drill how to debate. They hope they can convince anyone with that smile that 10 000 snails hitched to a wagon can out run a Ferrari be that with "renewable power" or enough "energy" coming from sub-zero C molecules to cook an entire planet.

Old Rocks obviously misses the neg rep button.

When he gives you a 'funny' rating, he obviously is stating his disagreement with the lowest icon available.

The lesson?

PolarBear doesn't know what inverters and transformers do.

Deniers tend to know nothing about all disciplines of science and engineering. They're well-rounded in their ignorance.

Actually, the lesson is, despite the 12 year progressive campaign of "deniers/republicans don't know about science", interest in climate change couldn't be any less enthusiastic.:eusa_dance::eusa_dance:

When he gives you a 'funny' rating, he obviously is stating his disagreement with the lowest icon available.

No..I think he is just chuckling to himself and imagining that he could construct an effective argument against the point if he just felt like it. Whistling past the graveyard. Telling himself lies that he actually believes.

That funny face button is the only answer he could possibly have to that problem.
And the problem is that you can not build a power on demand grid with just wind and solar.

The only people who think they could are clue-less idiots like this one:

It starts out that for the first time for a few hours they managed to run in England on wind alone...and then what happened? Well the clue-less narrator believes it`s a problem of not having enough heavy steel inertia to keep the generators spinning at the exact speed needed to avert a black-out...well that is true for the duration of a few milliseconds and after that you better have a way to ramp up the power to the engine which drives the generator.
I guess one of the engineers that invited him did explain that because near the end of his video he goes into that scenario what happens next...breakers trip and the whole country is zapped out.
But they do have a solution or so they told him. If everybody has a electric car then the power company can suck the power out of all the batteries whenever they need to.
Hahaha...that makes everybody`s car a community property and when you want to drive it to work in the morning you get an error message "sorry try again in a few hours".
In addition to that all the stupid people have to buy "smart" appliances that the power company can render inoperative whenever their wind & solar wimps out and sucks the power out of everybody`s cars.
Like I already said...there is no way a free country will submit to that unless you change it to a communist style socialist system just so you can run it on "renewable" energy.
