If we go to war with Iran

It will be because Obama caused it. Who wants to bet if we start a war with Iran people like Rdean will suddenly think it is a good idea cause Obama is President?

Yea, OBAMA is the one who caused the inevitable war... not the Iranians, who have ignored years of sanctions and constant warnings from the international community about producing a nuclear bomb... yea, they had no hand in it..:cuckoo:

Greenwald had a decent write-up on this.

One of the most significant foreign policy controversies of the 2008 presidential election centered around Barack Obama’s pledge ”to meet separately, without precondition” with the leaders of Iran, Syria, Venezuela, Cuba and North Korea....

...But we have now a great irony: America’s increasingly tense and dangerous conflict with Iran is characterized (one could even say caused) by the unwillingness of the Obama administration to engage meaningfully with Iran’s leaders. After a few early, symbolic gestures, it has been the administration’s refusal to pursue the most fruitful path for resolving the various disputes between the two nations — namely, direct negotiations and diplomacy — that is most responsible for the stand-off.

Stupid post of the year (so far).

Uhhhhhhh, why?

You didn't see democrats howling and cheering Obama for blowing up Libya? Were they even the tiniest of threat to us? Hell no.

Check your facts about Libya. France, Germany and the UK led that operation, under the sanctions of the UN, and were bitching the whole time about the U.S. not doing enough. All we did in Libya is throw a couple of missiles. We played a very minor role in Libya.

C'mon....c'mon....Teabaggers are quite capable of dreaming-up that kind o' shit, on-their-own.

As usual......the OPPOSITE is the Truth.

"Iran’s foreign minister offered on Monday to extend a three-day visit to his country by United Nations inspectors in what seemed to be a further attempt to lower the strident tone of a crisis with the West over Tehran’s nuclear program after the imposition of new economic sanctions."

Sanctions are WORKING.....the Chickenhawks don't get their War.

We taking bets that if we go to war with Iran the left claims it is a "good" war?
Aw Hell? Wasn't Libya? Obama never got permission from the Congress for that, did he?

Libya wasn't a fucking war.. damn dude know what your talking about before you speak. It just makes you look ignorant..

We took sides in a sovereign nation's civil war and dropped bombs on the designated enemy as well as deployed covert forces on the ground to support our Libyan allies. If we didn't participate in a foreign war on the other side of the Atlantic then neither did France in 1778.

btw, France's participation in the US Revolutionary War was the final nail in the deficit spending coffin that brought about the French Revolution.

The international community answered the cries of help from the Libyan people to help them. What the UN authorized was a "no fly zone" and the UN mandate strictly said NO OUTSIDE GROUND FORCES MAY ENTER THE COUNTRY. There was debate at one point for America to send CIA Operatives to teach the rebels how to fight, but that never passed. Here is what happened with Libya:

President Barack Obama authorized limited military action against Libya Saturday, saying Moammar Gadhafi’s continued assault on his own people left the U.S. and its international partners with no other choice. The Pentagon said 112 cruise missiles were launched from US and UK ships and subs, hitting 20 targets.

Obama said military action was not his first choice.

so I ask you again... how is launching 112 missiles, a war lol. It was a military action, which the President can do without asking congress. The power to declare war reside only within congress. The U.S. was bashed for not doing "enough" in Libya. Go figure, the one time we try to stay out of it, and the international community throws a fit..

We launched missiles at a country who was zero threat, warmongering 101.

ok I'll try to make this as simple as possible:

  • You acknowledge the US allied with Libyan rebels and took military action to win the Libyan Civil War.
  • 1 + 1 = 2 and the US participated in a foreign war.

You seem to think that simply because the US didn't declare the war, it's impossible that the US participated in the war. That's illogical.

Oh, so it won't be because of Iran's actions at all huh? Yeah, that makes perfect sense.

This is nonsense, everyone knows that the actions of sovereign nations have no consequences. It's crazy talk like this that might lead people to start thinking that OUR policies might make people hate us.

Gaddaffi always responded to sanctions and diplomacy, look where that got him.

We need to stop pretending that stuff matters.

Check out the article "the not so great game" on Foreign Policy in focus's e-publication World Beat. it would open up a whole new layer to this discussion

Probably.

I personally think it would be a horrible idea regardless of who teh president is. We don't have a large enough army to Invade a country like Iran without a draft, and we don't have the money to pay for a war.

But the right-wingers and Zionists who hope for such a war should realize that such a conflict will almost definitely give us a second term of Obama. (Although, at the rate the Republicans are going, Obama would have to be caught clubbing baby seals in a gay bathhouse to not win.)

If we go to war with anyone--this country goes over the cliff into certain bankruptcy. We can no longer afford to blow up and rebuild. Israel will have to handle Iran by themselves, if need be, and they are more than capable of leveling the entire middle east, if they have too.

But that would crash the economy just as badly. So I'm not seeing an upside here.

Hmmm, didn't I say Iran was supporting terrorists worldwide....this before their recent attacks in Asia and Eurasia.
