These statistics are claimed to be true:
1. 50% of American wage earners earn less than $30k.
2. 63% of Americans can’t afford a $1,000 emergency.
3. 80% of American workers live pay check to pay check.
4. Since 1973 American productivity has increased by 77%, yet hourly pay has grown by 12%. If the minimum wage was tracked to productivity, it would be over $20 an hour today.
5. 41% of American workers earn less than $12 per hour, with most without employer provided HC.
6. Since 2008 the federal government and the Fed created $26 trillion out of nothing. Was any of this enormous sum spent on infrastructure, public education, universal HC, bail out 5.1 million people who lost their homes?

Not a pretty picture for the poor and middle class. Hopefully things are improving or we are headed for big trouble.

Not sure how accurate those stats are, but things have changed since I was a young man starting out.

Back then, I was taught:

1 week's pay is for housing. The next week's is for food and bills. The next 2, you either spend or save.

It doesn't work like that now. It still does for me, somehow, but not for many.

Certainly not for anyone in the position I was in back then.

I was making $1150/wk back then..that included side jobs.

All your points have validity , but all won't be solved by any given politician OR election

Nothing in our lives will change this November , because this is a course we've been on for a generation.

The rich get richer, the poor get poorer in America , that's FACT

No...the rich get richer and the poor get richer....in America, not so for the rest of the world...our "poor" live better than the middle class of Europe.

Same here, but the third week was for a car or pick-up. Spending and saving came from side jobs or second job.

From where I'm sitting personally, one thousand dollars means very little. It's just something that happens.

Try facing the facts of what happens to hundreds of thousands of working people.

There's no proof trump is trying to fix things else you're talking about tax cuts for the rich and his other disgraceful policies.

The economy is now going great, unemployment is down, job opportunites are up, and even for Black and Hispanics in America unemployment is down at historic levels.....

You don't know what you are talking about.

I do, that's why MAGA is a good thing.

I want every man to be able to support a family, own a house, a car or two, and have a boat or RV and take a 2-week vacation every year on a 40-hour week job.

That used to be the norm in America, and I want to get back to that.

The younger generation is getting fucked, and I don't like that.

Damn! Okay last night, me n some friends were sitting around, talking about all the things we used to get away with. You can't get away with a damn thing anymore. We were free n wild. Nowadays, they just zoom into that phone n twiddle-thumb it. Oh yeah, no need for "bugs" anymore when everybody carries an audio listening device with a built-in video camera.

Buying prosperity via insane debt escapes most people 2Guy

While everyone was focused on Kava's sexual proclivities, Trump & Co did exactly that ,legislating our GND to PAY for all he touts as 'his economy' , on our GrandKids dime

Trump's short term exaggerations of the economy masks the long term effects his policies will have. The same phenomenon was seen with Reagan. It will be worse after Trump.

America has always been great MM

MAGA is for haters ,who are groomed to focus their angst and hate on specific factions of our population

It takes the focus off the elites who are raping us

So you see, the sound byte (FWIW, Reagan's) is used to oust those of us with critical thinking skills enough to see past such hubris , and realize how America ticks

Actually more people move up than move down compared to their parents in America. Possibly due to increased ease of information but no, few grow poorer and if they do it's due to their choices.

Exactly.....

Trump is a reganista , along with all his exhalted trickle downism.....

Of course it's true, and of course we're in trouble.

"Every man for himself" doesn't work in capitalist system, and the reason should be clear: There will always be people who are naturally better suited to create wealth and prosper than others. Therefore, without a strong safety net and a supported middle class, many will fall through the holes.

The "you're on your own" folks are digging their own grave here. They refuse to see that, as wealth disparities continue to increase, so will the anger. At some point, the people on the bottom will revolt at the polls and we will swing in the other direction.

As another poster has said here, it's social insurance against revolution. That's too complicated, I guess.
