If this is true, Panetta should resign

If it's true that Leon Panetta had Marines disarm before being in a room with him, he should resign.

You don't put your desire for personal safety above the honor of the United States Marine Corp.

Story to come, I'm sure.

I can't believe you people hate Obama so much you would attack the Sec Defense who is considered a great American by most rational and sane people. Difficult to find a Republican that knows him who has anything negative to say about Panetta's honor, duty, service, or patriotism.

You people would destroy American in order to win a silly ideological dispute with the elected President

btw: American officials said that the top commander in Helmand, Maj. Gen. Mark Gurganus, had decided on Tuesday that no one would be armed while Mr. Panetta spoke to them, but the word did not reach those in charge in the tent until shortly before Mr. Panetta was due to arrive.

General Gurganus told reporters later that he wanted a consistent policy for everyone in the tent. “You’ve got one of the most important people in the world in the room,” he said. He insisted that his decision had nothing to do with the shooting on Sunday. “This is not a big deal,” he said.

They're dangerous and touchy, so we must place more faith in them, and not take any precautions to protect our representatives...

What utter bullshit.

I find it stunning that the Secretary of Defense trust Afghan security more than his own Marines.

We have reached a sad day indeed.

I understand that it was a gesture by the commander, to make all the troops in the place in which Panetta was to appear, be equally unarmed. They couldn't trust the Afghanistanis; so the same condition had to be applied to the Marines.
Well waddya know -- Affirmative Action in the Coalition Forces. That should be a recruitment slogan and see how well it works.

Thus, a smart move. And, it is likely some Marines or others in the area had weapons. We are trying to TURN the mess over to Afghanis, and they cannot yet be trusted NOT to kill US troops or officials.
The fact is there have been a sufficient number of incidents to support the conclusion that 100% of those Afghan troops cannot be trusted. So placing our troops at unnecessary risk is a good enough reason to be rid of the individual who gave the order to disarm those Marines, whether that be Panetta or any subordinate.
As there were Afghanis in the tent, how can they be trusted not a grab a gun from those armed?
As there are criminals abroad in American society, how can they be trusted not to grab a gun from the police?

Obaaaaaaaaama!!!!!!!!!

Is he not responsible for the actions of who he appoints?

Yes.

well thats just weird:cuckoo:.

The difference between myself, a conservative, service connected disabled veteran, and that POS, turn our troops command over to the UN Panetta... I would INSIST the Marines bear their arms.

Panetta needs to have his cheesy, traitorous ass kicked to the curb, but don't expect the kenyan to do it. Panetta is just the kind of scum obama likes.
Why don't you stand aside and let the grownups discuss this intelligently?

I'd like to say I'm shocked but nothing surprises me about the Obama's Administrations outright contempt and hatred for our culture and institutions
Obaaaaaaaaama!!!!!!!!!

Oh... right... I see YOU are SOOOO grown up.

Idiot.

Do you know what an absolute international diss this was?

They just completely dissed the best fighting force ever known to mankind. The US Marine Corps.

You don't get it. You don't get it at all.

What the hell does that have to do with anything?

People, please nominally educate yourself before you open your mouth and make yourselves look like big, stupid idiots:

Hey... according to Nancy Pelosi and leftists, returning home GI's and veterans are TERRORISTS.

Funny how they can call our own military troops terrorists but they can't call TERRORISTS, terrorists.

Just example after example of how DISGUSTING LIBERALS actually are.

So, at first glance, this seems like a diplomatic move by the General.

However, it goes against my grain to disarm serving Marines.

And, the bigger picture is that they show these Afghani's that they really can't trust them. So, that seems like a fail of the diplomatic move.

Post Of The Day!!!

I am not interested in making Afghans feel better, or having a strategic partnership with them that costs us $50 billion a year, etc.

1) They cannot be trusted, because they do not have a value system that resembles anything post-1200 B.C.

2) They have no oil.

they have multi-trillion-dollar lithium mines. just saying.

It would be less expensive to just nuke them and occupy their land in order to exploit their lithium mines.

Perhaps to prevent an Afghani from grabbing a WEAPON?

When was the last time you heard of an unarmed Afghani stealing a weapon from an on-duty marine and using it to wipe out important politicians or military heads?

Isn't going to happen.

when was the last time you heard of terrorists hijacking a plane and flying them into buildings?

They thought the samething before 9/11....

Again this is why you don't run policy.

Were there Marines on those planes? I think not.

Why do you want our gallant, patriotic corporations to work in a radiated area?

BUT, the MARINES are not going to "LET" an Afghani take a gun from them..................................

With a room full of armed Marines, he wouldn't get far if did. It is a silly assumption, to say the least, maybe we should disarm those protecting the President, someone might grab their guns.
Why then did Gurganus make the decision to DISARM the Marines?

It's horrid Peach. I really do like you as a sane poster center left. This situation is not good. This shows real down to the problem weakness.

Not good. To disarm the Marines is probably one of the biggest mistakes I have ever witnessed in a political life internationally.

And I've been around a couple of decades.

Actually, I would be surprised if there were no Marines on any of those planes. There are a lot of Marines in American society.
