... at the general election? Why didn't these laws take effect during the Republican Primary?

By now you all should know that voter fraud is incredibly rare. Obviously, these laws were intended to hinder certain Obama supporters.

Why?
Becasue only Obama supporters don't have proper ID?
Because only Obama supporters are too fucking stupid to be able to GET proper ID?
Because only Obama supporters cannot afford the FREE ID's?

In other words, you agree these laws are politically motivated.

They are politically motivated. That and the continued denigration of women by the GOP should turn out a lot of voters. The Democrats need to do some real organizing and registration drives in all of these areas. Also, need to make sure every GOP candidate, state and federal level, has to answer whether he or she support the Blount amendment.

Should one have to register to vote?

Not even remotely what I said. I was commenting on your whining that they only affect Obama supporters, rather than ALL voters. These laws affect everyone, not just Obama supporters. Everyone would be subject to the same requirements, therefore the laws by definition are not 'politically motivated'.

Bullshit. That doesn't explain why these laws won't take effect until the General Election.

Why don't many of the provisions of the health care law take effect for several years? IS that politically motivated?

And please link to specific voter ID laws that were approved... when they were approved... and which do not take effect until the general election.

It seems like something as important as making decisions that effect us all should require some effort on the part of the voter. Being registered and showing up with an ID you should already possess doesn't sound burdensome in the least.

We have voter ID laws in Georgia, have for several years. It had nothing to do with Obama, I think it's a great idea.

Answer me this libs, if SEIU, Acorn and Trumka can load up buses to take people to vote, why can't they load them up and take them to get proper IDs??

Or is it something else to try and make this look like an issue that only effects "certain voters??" The Republicans need to quit being reactive and become more proactive.........can't wait til the primaries are over and Bam gets his turn. :)

Dead people rarely vote GOP. No real need for ID laws in their primary.

absolutely. While the right to vote is guaranteed, there is nothing that say you are not required to or should not be required to prove your eligibility to exercise the right to vote.

Thanks for the response. The OP didn't respond. I was hoping to has her/him what the point of registration is if you're not going to demand proof of registration later on when it comes time to cast the ballot.

For me, if you're going to require registration, licenses, certifications, etc... it is silly to not demand credentials when the time comes to use those registrations, licenses, and certifications.

The party hacks can just ignore votes anyway, look at Iowa and Maine this year. People who voted legally were ignored and only after public indignation were their votes restored. Makes one wonder about the general election does it not? Its not about illegals or dead people voting but the manipulation of votes after they are cast that is becoming more in doubt. After the chad debacle in Florida for the Bush/Gore contest and this years primary flubs is any election really on the up and up?

Of course they are politically motivated. Democrats can't win without voter fraud. So if you oppose voter fraud, you are automatically anti-Democrat.

Less money in coming in to many states and/or more budget cuts to "unnecessary" services. Fewer humans to verify ANYTHING. Much reliance on MACHINES.

Obama won by something like 4 million votes. All of them were fraudulent?

Shut the fuck up.
