WASHINGTON - President Barack Obama said Friday he expects an $825 billion economic recovery plan to be approved by his target of mid-February and urged congressional leaders to work swiftly to pass it.

Sober tone over victory
Obama focused on the $787 billion stimulus plan, an ambitious package of federal spending and tax cuts designed to revive the economy and save millions of jobs. Most wage-earners will soon see the first paycheck evidence of tax breaks that will total $400 for individuals and $800 for couples.

The stimulus package was a huge victory for Obama less than one month into his presidency. But he struck a sober tone and lowered expectations for an immediate turnaround in the severe recession that is well into its second year.

The stimulus was too small and shouldn't have been pared down. The economy needed more spending not less. The jobs bill is still a good start to stimulate small business
You're admitting it didn't work, correct?

Because it was "too small" and "shouldn't have been pared down."

I suppose you're going to say Repugs pared it down, dooming it to failure and it's ALLLLLL repug's fault it didn't work, right?

When will this officially be the talking point? It has the advantage of being at least partially honest.

Within the scope of the stimulus it worked better than we could have expected. Its biggest contribution was that it sent a message that the Government was willing to invest in the economy. The economic panic subsided and investors returned to the market.
The rate of loss of jobs reversed within weeks of the stimulus passing as companies became more confident.
I would not oppose a second stimulus package
You're making excuses and blaming repugs for something that you say worked.

Correct?

If it worked, why did we need the jobs bill and yet another stimulus?

Why did we need the tax rebate during Bush when the economy was fine?
And unemployment was what 6%?
If the "stimulus worked" why did we need a $100 billion "jobs bill?"

Booooooosh threads are that way ----------------------->

Try to keep up.

OhhhhhhBama!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Pretty pathetic how obama bashers react to Bush bashing.

Partisan parrots.

And I bashed Bush long before it was popular.
I was called unamerican for it.

Now face the facts that the republicans forced this plan down in a attempt to get what they wanted instead of what the American people needed

Who is the President, right now?

Where's the bashing? I asked a question you cannot honestly answer. That's not "bashing."

Come back when you have a thought.

Who is more responsible for our current finiancial mess Bush or Obama?

Why is this now an excuse, for something that supposedly worked?

You're admitting it didn't work. You better tell Obama and Axelrod. They're still saying it worked!

Or, are you still saying it worked, while at the same time defending it and blame shifting?

Why would you need to be defending something that worked?

C'mon now.....

Bush/Obama?? Is there really any difference? To me there aren't any real differences between Socialists and Neocons. They're both Big Government Globalists/Internationalists in the end. They take you to the same place eventually. It's actually very sad.

That might make a great thread. The topic of this one is:

If the "stimulus worked" why did we need a $100 billion "jobs bill?"

Try addressing the topic.

Ask the entire worlds population if they think Bush and Obama are the same.

You are only joined in this stupidity by a few people

Yes i might be one of the few who sees this but i'm not stupid. Socialists and Neocons are the same entity in the end. This President hasn't done anything different than the previous President. Stimulus,Corporate Bailouts,Raising Debt Limits,Patriot Act,and Recess Appointments. That's just to name a few. The list can go on and on. Both really are just Big Government Globalists/Internationalists in the end. It is what it is.

That is called recipe for disaster.

You cannot spend your way to prosperity, its been tried and its never worked.

No you can't spend your way to prosperity. You can't cut taxes to get there either

No taxes need to be cut, what needs cutting is spending and it isn't being done, spending is being increased.

But the OP is correct, the stimulous didn't work and never would have worked.

If you claim its 'not enough' then you are admitting the government lied about it.

If the "stimulus worked" why did we need a $100 billion "jobs bill?"

I've asked this question several times on here . . . never did get an answer.
We're having just a tad more success here, as the Obamaphiles -- in their haste and zeal to defensively deflect the flawless logic of the OP -- find themselves admitting their beloved stimulus didn't work.

Or, "yeah it did work but we're defending it anyway. Yeah we are reflexively, robotically defending something that worked."
