Beyond just the name, the media attempts to explore who this person is/was. Is the media attention the reason why mass shootings in the US have increased? That's my theory. I think it's more the sensationalism added by the 24 hour news stations. The media has to report the identity of the person who did it. And of course if the shooter wrote some manifesto the public wants to hear it. What the media does though is turns them into almost rock stars to other psychos. When a 24 hour news station spends over 12 hours a day covering just the shooting it's almost like they're running an ad for mass shooters.

I tend to think that it is suicide tendencies but being the cowards that they are they can put the gun in their mouth. They also blame someone or something for the way their life has turned out and the hate overwhelms them. Then there is an enabler whom they believe wants them to do this. Anger, suicide tendencies, and enabler. So they take out as many as they can in the hope that the cops put them down. Yes that guy in El Paso gave up but still will get the death penalty in Texas.

Maybe a picture and general details like age , race , criminal record but that's about all that should be breathlessly reported by media. Stuff like motive , upbringing and motive are unimportant to me or most people , imo . .
