If Santorum defeats Romney in Michigan...then what?

And Reagan won by a historically huge landslide because of that?

50.7% isn't really a historic landslide. He was much more impressive in the following election.

United States presidential election, 1980 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

The United States presidential election of 1980 featured a contest between incumbent Democrat Jimmy Carter and his Republican opponent, Ronald Reagan, as well as Republican Congress-
man John B. Anderson, who ran as an independent. Reagan, aided by the Iran hostage crisis and a worsening economy at home, won the election in a landslide, receiving the highest number of electoral votes ever won by a nonincumbent presidential candidate, and became the 40th President of the United States...

The election was held on November 4, 1980. Ronald Reagan with running mate George H.W. Bush beat Carter by almost 10 percentage points in the popular vote. Republicans also gained control of the Senate for the first time in twenty-five years on Reagan's coattails. The electoral college vote was a landslide, with 489 votes (representing 44 states) for Reagan and 49 votes for Carter (representing 6 states and the District of Columbia). NBC News projected Reagan as the winner at 8:15 pm EST (5:15 PST), before voting was finished in the West, based on exit polls. (It was the first time a broadcast network used exit polling to project a winner, and took the other broadcast networks by surprise.) Carter conceded defeat at 9:50 pm EST.[25][26] Carter's loss was the worst defeat for an incumbent President since Herbert Hoover lost to Franklin D. Roosevelt in 1932 by a margin of 18%. Carter's defeat is the most lopsided defeat for any incumbent president in an election where only two candidates won electoral votes.

Can it get much worse than that for an incumbent President?

Yeah, it was a LANDSLIDE.

You see? Lying works.

Good job boys!

:clap2:

So being personally opposed to use of birth control while agreeing it should still be available legally is THEOCRACY to you?

Are you trying to make a joke?

Yeah..well..all the "Tea Party" types who ran on the small government meme are actively trying to have government police women's bodies by sending up all sorts of crazy laws.

If it weren't so dangerous it'd be comical.

If it were actually true it might be dangerous. Considering the hundreds of thousands of females that die in abortion each year, I dont see how it is anti-female at all.

I suspect you just hate conservative Catholics.

Most women will vote against conservative Catholics this November. They don't hate them. They just want them to mind their own business. They want to have the right to choose. The GOP have over reached with all their anti abortion laws and its going to pay off for Democrats in November. Even despite Citizens United.

And they didn't get impeached for the Iran Contra affair but Clinton got impeached for a bj?

Clinton didnt get impeached for a bj, dumbass, he got impeached for comitting perjury.

Sheesh, try picking up a book once in awhile.

Reagan beat the USSR but he also empowered Iran and Bin Ladin.

You cant catch flies with vinegar. If we really wanted to change Iran peaceully we would have shunned our boycots and unfroze their funds during Katami's time and rewarded the Iranian people with our support for a move toward more tolerant government.

But what if NO candidate gets the required number of delegates by convention time? What happens than in Tampa?

A brokered convention? Ron Paul acting as king maker? A draft Palin movement on the floor?

This could be more fun than a day at Kennywood Park!

The only distraction that could possibly be more devastating to the Republican Party than a brokered convention is a re-enactment of 1968 with the OWS folks playing the Yippies and the Tampa cops singing from Richard Daly's hymnal. I dearly hope for the OWS folks that this does not happen.

This is 1948 all over again. Remember the paper came out Dewey Defeats Truman!!! Republicans have no idea what a wave is coming because the corporate media is controlling the message. No one has ever polled me, or anyone I know.

The problem with Democratic voters is they don't understand how important midterms are. Gave the House to the Tea baggers. Now we gotta take it back in November.
I can't speak for the rest of the country, but here in Marcellus Shale country, the "drill baby, drill" crowd is losing the debate. We have had earthquakes as a result of injection wells used to dispose of the drilling fluids. They have brought heavy industry into farm country and the resulting environmental damage is all too readily seen and felt.

That and the iron fisted approach to workers rights shown by former Fox contributor turned Ohio governor John Kascich, the message of Conservatism is falling on deaf ears. Watch the Great Lakes states and the Rust Belt as a barometer of Republican successes this November. Ohio, Michigan, Pennsylvania will tell the tale of the congressional races.

Given this climate, I can't see the republicans who were swept in on the then rising tide of Tea party activism winning re-election.

Naw.

He got impeached for making Gingrich sit in the back of a plane on the way to North Korea.

Well it helped him win.

And "applauding" an act of treason is what make you damned conservatards so lovable.

And making up shit is what makes you liberals so fucking hysterical.

What treason, Sherlock?

See above...Watson.

THAT was TREASON?

Oh, for fucks sake, that is not treason to tell something you think is true but turns out to not be.

And the US government did not trade arms to Iran, but General Secord did using weapons he bought from his personal funds out of expired munitions from DOD supply.

Besides, what was quoted was from 1986, SIX YEARS AFTER the 1980 elections, so it couldnt possibly have influenced Reagan winning that election by a landslide.

Do you really think about this stuff or do you just memorize the MoveOn.org talking points verbatim without chewing on it a little bit?

You probably really think that.

But then again, lying under oath was never a big deal to liberals if it got their agenda advanced.

The Iran Hostage Crisis: The 1980 Election

The constant media coverage of the hostage crisis in the U.S. served as a demoralizing backdrop for the 1980 presidential race. President Carter’s inability to resolve the problem made him look like a weak and ineffectual leader. At the same time, his intense focus on bringing the hostages home kept him away from the campaign trail.

The Republican candidate, former California governor Ronald Reagan, took advantage of Carter’s difficulties. Rumors even circulated that Reagan’s campaign staff negotiated with the Iranians to be sure that the hostages would not be released before the election, an event that would surely have given Carter a crucial boost. (Reagan himself always denied these allegations.) On Election Day, one year and two days after the hostage crisis began, Reagan defeated Carter in a landslide.

On January 21, 1981, just a few hours after Ronald Reagan delivered his inaugural address, the remaining hostages were released. They had been in captivity for 444 days.

That's treason chief. Reagan was a reprehensible asshole. But he had nice hair and was very charismatic. Which probably saved him from impeachment and removal from office.

He committed Treason and broke the law.

You forgot to mention that Reagan also convinced the East Germans to wait unitl after Carter to tear down the Berlin Wall too. If you guys are going conspiracy theory, go big.

That's treason chief.

You have got to be kidding. Rumors that Reagan had some understanding is sufficient to your mind to say he committed treason? Really? Dude, you really need to get clinical help.

The clip you gave as a reference was about things that followed SIX YEARS LATER, for crying out loud. Are you really stupid?

Reagan was a reprehensible asshole. But he had nice hair and was very charismatic. Which probably saved him from impeachment and removal from office.

He committed Treason and broke the law.

No, he did not, and he was probably the best President we have had since Lincoln, IMO.

Help for what, exactly?

And Reagan oversaw economic calamities which forced the government to bail out banks and financials as well as committing treason and breaking the law.

He also lied under oath. What the heck do you think the whole Iran/Contra dust up was over? He was taking money from selling weapons to Iran and funnelling it to the Contras.

Nice group of boys those Contras. Aside from the death squad thing..they captured, raped and killed 3 American nuns.

You know who else Reagan funded? Osama Bin Laden.

He was a real piece of shit.

The youth in Iran are going through the same problems that the 99%'ers/Wallstreet Protesters are going through here in America. The rich/powerful have screwed up the system and while they have gotten richer, the rest of us have fallen behind. Can't afford college, can't find jobs, economy sucks. But meanwhile, just like here in America, the moola's keep getting richer.

Funny you want to support the people of Iran but not the people of America. The people in Wisconsin or on Wallstreet are probably commies and socialists to you. But the people in Iran, you want them to revolt for the same things? Odd.

Seems our government is just as corrupt as Irans, Greece, France, Syria, Egypts. And everywhere its the rich that are corrupt, not the unions and not the poor and not entitlements.
