If Ryan's plan for seniors is so great, why doesn't it apply to seniors?

So medicare is better and they get to keep it because they've been paying into it all along.

That's what he's really saying: Medicare is better.

Nope. You can keep wishing that is what he is saying, but it isn't.

Everyone knows Medicare is bankrupt.

Ryan's plan involves a choice between a private health care plan or the public plan. This requires decades of advance planning and paying into the system for your ultimate retirement, so the 55+ crowd obviously cannot participate.

Medicare is not bankrupt. Everyone does not know this. Take the profit out of health care. Problem solved.

So.. are you prepared to take the profit out of higher education too?

he's picking winners and losers. Based on their probable 2012 vote. Nice.

I have built my retirement around medicare also.

Picking winners and losers is deciding who gets a benefit according to their political affiliation........not their age.

And example of picking winners and losers is when Obama took over Gm (which he said he wouldn't do) and decided unilaterally to close down hundreds of dealerships according to their political leanings. He put thousands of people out of business and out of work.

Ryan is trying to save Medicare.

He's changing Medicare because if he doesn't it won't last 10 years.

If Obama keeps stealing from it.....it won't last 5.
Good points. Imagine Obama throwing American jobs under the bus and come back and hammer Mitt for Bain. Hypocrisy at it's highest....but the left won't think so.

Absolutely.

I read that Paul Ryan's austerity measures in his plan dont apply to anyone over 55 regarding benefits for seniors.

If they are saying their plan is so great for seniors, why doesn't it apply to our seniors?

Dear McCrist

because the seniors who are already on the plan have no time for alternative solutions. those 55 and under have time.

Dumbest thing I've seen you write.

And, that's really saying something.

BTW, if pubs are in power, wall street/dow, etc will tank. The country will be in a deep depression. That means those over 65 will lose everything they have saved and invested. And, even if they're well off (like your imaginary "under 55") they will not have time to recoup enough to survive. Needless to say, your imaginary "under 55" will lose everything as well.

Damn fool idiots.

A simplistic and completely wrong answer.

lol.

Nice try though.

Why is it a "nice try"? Explain the merits of a $6,000 a year cost increase for Medicare beneficiaries over opening up Medicare to anyone who would like to purchase it?

Explain your claim. Show how Ryan's plan increases Medicare costs for beneficiaries by $6000 a year.

.

The Ryan budget would limit the growth rate of Medicare spending for new beneficiaries from year to year, starting in 2023, to the growth rate of gross domestic product (GDP) per capita plus one-half percentage point — an amount that will likely fall short of the actual growth of health care costs. The Congressional Budget Office (CBO) projects that under the Ryan budget, federal Medicare expenditures on behalf of an average new beneficiary would be $400 to $700 (6 to 11 percent) less in 2023, $1,200 to $2,200 (14 to 23 percent) less in 2030, and $5,900 to $8,000 (35 to 42 percent) less in 2050 than under current law.[4] Since under the Ryan budget, Medicare would no longer make payments to health care providers such as doctors and hospitals, the only way to keep Medicare cost growth within the GDP plus one-half percentage point target would be to limit the annual increase in the amount of the premium-support vouchers. As a result, the vouchers would purchase less coverage with each passing year, pushing more costs on to beneficiaries. Over time, seniors would have to pay more to keep the health plans and the doctors they like, or they would get fewer benefits.

Ryan answered your question the other night during a CBS interview but they edited his answer out and for good reason--to "protect" Barack Obama.

Ryan stated that his mother who lives in Florida--is on Medicare--and that the elderly on Medicare have built their retirements around the current Medicare plan--and that is why nothing will change for them--including those who are currently 55 and older.

54 and under will still be able to choose Medicare when they reach 65 or they may opt for a different plan. The one size fits all in health care is nonsense. As if we have all come out of the same cloner.

Ryans Medicare plan is really an off-shoot of one of Bill Clinton's plans for Medicare--in a way to get quality care for seniors but in a more efficient way.

Nope. What he's saying is they get to keep it because they're happy with it. They're plans revolve around it.

The new form of Medicare will be more efficient and less expensive to run.
If it is better then everyone should go on the voucher system immediately instead of penalizing the elderly by forcing them to continue on medicare.

Sounds more like an emotional response with nothing to back up your premise. just sayin....

If they ended Social Security today and said everyone had to retire on whatever they invested on their own, how many 60 year olds do you know who can save up enough between now and when they turn 65 to make up the difference of what they would have received from Social Security?

You see the problem? They don't have enough time.

That is the same situation with Ryan's Medicare plan. 55+ year olds do not have enough time to pay into the voucher system to make up the difference.

What about the 54 year olds? It's possible if someone started working at age 15 (I did) they could have 40 years of paying into the system under their belt. But they are screwed. And how about a couple where one is now 54 and the other is 56? The older one gets good bennies while the spouse is screwed.

Everyone knows Medicare is bankrupt....link? And this certainly isn't the only way to save money.

Well, it's clear that Obama has no shame.

He seals his records, claims executive privilage on Fast & Furious....then turns around and says Romney is hiding something in his tax-returns.

He pisses off our allies and then has his media accuse Romney of insulting them.

He steals $700 billion from Medicare then claims Romney wants to cut Medicare.

He sends millions of jobs overseas, outsources our manned space program to Russia, and outsources our oil industry to Brazil, yet he says Romney outsources jobs.

He has his media lackeys yell questions at Romney when the press isn't allowed to knowing full well Obama almost never allows the press to ask questions at press-conferences.

He and his wife have been living off of the fat of this country for almost 4 years wasting billions on Hawaiian vacations, and shopping trips to Spain, and he claims Romney is out of touch and is some rich bastard that could care less about the Middle-class.

Why would they have to....just move the money that is currently funding medicare to vouchers.

How can you do a complete 180 and expect to be taken seriously?

I just can't stop laughing at how gullible you are. Sorry

I didn't do a 180. I took a side-step. My previous beliefs are still 90% intact. I do, however, observe with sadness how TP sponsored mayors and governors in the South are treating their cops and firemen with the same disdain they spew towards all "gubermint workers". And it lost my vote.

In an analogy, I offer a fat person losing weight. Sure, they need to cut some fat. But at a point it becomes unhealthy, even dangerous. The TP'ers down here, at least, have gotten to the unhealthy point....heading towards dangerous.

Ok so the local governments have maxed out effeciency and no longer need to cut anything? There is no more dead weight?

I bet you didn't think about that when obama gave you a one thousand dollar a year tax rebate on your ss and medicare did ya? so if you're under 55 you better be thinking of another way.

Why are costs for health care lower in Japan than they are here?

Because japs are much healthier than Americans, moron. Fat japs are called Samos, and they are revered. Here, our poor don't starve, they are gluttonous, and wind up obese and diabetic.

Medicare trust fund to be exhausted by 2017, report reveals | Healthcare Finance News

The Medicare trust fund will be exhausted by 2017, two years earlier than originally projected, according to the annual report by Medicare Trustees.

Each year the Trustees of the Social Security and Medicare trust funds report on the current and projected financial status of the two programs. In their 2009 report, "projected long run program costs are not sustainable under current program parameters," they said.

Trustees Report Summary

Lawmakers should address the financial challenges facing Social Security and Medicare as soon as possible. Taking action sooner rather than later will leave more options and more time available to phase in changes so that the public has adequate time to prepare.

And so forth and so on.

Everyone agrees something needs to be done. That much is bi-partisan.

I'm not sure if he was saying its better, but he was definitely saying it is unsustainable.

We can try to fix this now where their will be some pain and disagreement.
Or do nothing like the Democrats want.

Then we get to a point where nothing will help..and we face a disaster.
