These costumes are what we could not wear, based on their ideology of not offending anyone at any time, even unintentionally.

    got this from www.dribbleglass.com

Well, we wouldn't even have Halloween if religious conservatives had their way. Afterall, it is the devil's holiday!

I used to belong to a church that half-heartedly endorsed that. It was the type of doctrine that would kill a church through a few elderly members who had qualms against just about everything. If they left, each of them would take their 8 children, 24 grandchildren, and 72 great grandchildren with them. The comprimise? A "harvest party" where people wore costumes and got candy. Most parents took the kids not because of any distaste for Halloween, but because of their distaste for their kids walking around Memphis at night.

Remember, some things churches seem to endorse are only really supported by a small few who will raise Hell if they're trifled with. For example, how many people have thought the issue out and actually believe that the tune (rather than the lyrics) of modern music is evil or that dice based pen and paper RPGs cause suicide and lead to Satanism.

In some states they celebrate All Saints Day instead which is the day after Halloween, and they do the same thing they would have on Halloween, throw a party, with candy, cake, games, costumes etc.

This kind of extreme-religeous thinking would never survive in my city - Anoka, which is the Halloween Capitol of the World. My proof: http://www.anokahalloween.com/

Halloween stuff goes on for like 2 weeks before. Tons of fun stuff for kids to do, and adults too!

Yeah, but I live in the bible belt, and bible belt churches have to pander to their extremist base...at least until they die off. Notice there are few churches left that ban dancing and force girls to wear skirts.

    touche! point taken.

we may have a few religous nutters around here, only because it is likely they are not from around here, or even this state. all their issues with our holiday fun would fall on deaf ears, though i have yet to hear of anyone against what the city does for the holiday anyhow.
