Bush had huge favorable performance ratings after the Gulf War(historic highs) - a decent economy, yet wasn't rewarded with a 2nd term.

Still can't figure.....................

Obama has historic low ratings and the worst economy since the Great Depression.

Trying to prop up his image with fake foreign policy "successes."

Hope the voters dont reward him with a 2nd term.

George HW Bush - the best president to lose re-election.

Resume dwarfs Obamas.

WW2 hero. Head of CIA. Conressman. VP etc...................

Bush I didn't have a decent economy.he had a recession. and he was disengaged.

but the reality is, there was a better candidate running against him.

so far the GOP seems dead set against picking a candidate that could get anyone other than "the base" to vote for him.

More people voted for the other guy.

Go figure.

That said..he wasn't a bad President. In comparision to his son he was an absolutely great President.

In comparison to Clinton he was a fair president.

To be fair..he had to fix what Reagan and his Voodoo economics left him.

It wasn't pretty.

Somebody once said - "never underestimate the stupidity of the American public".

1992 a case in point.

War hero/ sucessfull president with huge resumee loses to a draft dodger gov from a small state.

...who turned out to be an excellent president.

clinton wasn't a draft dodger... he had student deferments.

how 'bout cheney with his 5 deferments? you consider him a draft dodger?

Well, it wasn't a decent ecomomy. It was an awful economy.

He also lost the support of much of his base by pandering to the center, as manifested in the Buchanan/Perot insurgency.

But the real reason why Obama has such a good chance is because the Republicans aren't offering good alternatives.

Clinton, say what you want about him, was a dynamic candidate. Women wanted him and men wanted to be him.

I don't think anyone wants to be Mitt Romney.

Really? Is that why Romney is always in the Top in every poll? Because were Dead set against Nominating a Candidate that can get more than the Base to Vote for him?

lol

The democrat controlled media managed to portray a genuine WW2 hero as a "wimp" and a border line draft dodger as a hero. The liberal media knew Clinton had a (criminal?) sexual problem and democrats hired a "bimbo eruption" team to destroy any woman who was abused and came forward but they kept it a secret. People are better informed today than they were when Cronkite was king and Dan Rather was trusted.

Actually by election time the economy was in recession (it’s the economy, stupid…), however unfair and irrelevant, there was a deadly hurricane (Andrew) he allegedly poorly responded to, read my lips, and looking at his watch during a debate, indicating a lack of interest.

Ross for Boss siphoned off the votes of republicans angry about the tax increase (see: read my lips), republicans had the WH for 12 years, GHWB was a generally poor campaigner, and he was up against a charismatic opponent.

It was a perfect political storm.

And "Read My Lips - NO NEW TAXES" lost out to " I Didnt't inhale" and saxaphone stunt.

Bush did have a good economy. The recession had ended in March 1991. 1992 GDP growth was 4.5% Q1, 4.3% Q2, 4.2% Q3 and 4.3% Q4. Obama will be lucky to get half that growth next year.

But he was rudderless. Without Reagan's conservative principles, he was a go along to get along guy. And the Dems duped him.
That's why we won't fall for a tax hike/spending cut deal now.

3 words, buh bye Obama.

Exactly! And that's why Clinton, who actually signed NAFTA, lost in 1996. :cuckoo:

Wrong. By election time, the recovery was already 20 months along.

I don't know if you know this but 1992 and 1996 were two different years.
