CDZ If Donald J. Trump and Vladimir Putin Were in Power in October, 1962

He is not going to retaliate against the US.

He is bolstering Syrian defenses.

You sure about no retaliation? And, as far as bolstering Syria's air defenses, you do know that he's bolstering them against the possibility of another joint strike by US/French/English forces? He's giving them a better surface to air system to shoot down any missiles that may be shot into Syria. And, because Putin is close friends with Assad, you can bet it's not to defend Syria from Russian forces.

Russia warns of 'consequences' for US-led strike on Syria as Putin blasts 'act of aggression'

Russia warns of 'consequences' for US-led strike on Syria
  • Russia's ambassador to the U.S. warned there would be "consequences" for the strike on Syria, and that a "pre-designed scenario" was underway.
  • In ordering strikes on Syria, President Donald Trump called out both Iran and Russia for their support of Bashar Assad's government.
I guess it depends on your idea of what constitutes retaliation. I think the Russians aren't interested in escalating tensions.

I thought it was clear who Syria needs to defend itself from. Clearly the US is the aggressor.

If Trump lobs any more missiles into Syria, I'll bet you dollars to stale donuts that Putin is gonna do something militarily to the US.
Depends on the circumstances I would think. If he has to defend Russians I think he would.
If he has to defend Assad the chances go up.
If another pr stunt like the last effort, probably not.

I think if either Syrians OR Russians were attacked Putin would respond with military force. Why? Because Putin isn't the kind of person to make an empty threat, and his representatives have already said that if we attacked again, it would be met with force.

Trump is the one that makes empty threats. Remember the 3 carrier armada that was supposed to be off the coast of N. Korea?
Well, unfortunately we will probably find out in a short time. Trump's strike didn't appear to alter anything on the ground and now there is an open invitation for another false flag type attack. I expect we will see one.

Actually, in some of the footage, they showed a destroyed building that they said was used to manufacture chemical weapons.

They can say anything they want. Regardless, the Syrian forces are undeterred in their fight to save their country from Islamic extremist forces.

By using chemical weapons?

No, again, that is hearsay.

Hearsay my ass. I was in the US Navy for 20 years, and one of my collateral duties was as a member of the NBC teams. That meant I had to know about Nuclear, Biological and Chemical warfare, and what kind of agents had what kind of effects.

No, the footage they showed was of people who had been hit with a chemical attack.

Not to impugn your qualification to diagnose a youtube video, until such time as the event has been properly investigated it is indeed hearsay.

Unfortunately the war has raged on far too long. Had the US not propped up the terrorist element in Syria the conflict should have subsided and Syrian's lives returned to a more normal state.

Unlike the weak Kennedy Trump would have taken out the threat in Cuba and kicked Castro's butt.

Kennedy's weakness was the cause of the Cold War going on for another 30 years. He essentially gave the Soviets the red light to intervene in Central America, Africa and SE Asia.

Yuh huh. Perhaps you meant to say the "green" light but unfortunately we were already intervening in SE Asia and Africa since Eisenhower, and in Central America since McKinley.

Sorry but the fact that the jerk Kennedy and that asshole LBJ did nothing to stop the spread of Communism 90 miles from our shore was like a major boost for Soviet world wide expansion. We paid for it in Vietnam, Central America and Europe, not to mention Africa, SE Asia and an attempt in South America.

Blunder by Kennedy. He had the moral authority, the security threat and the military strength to remove Castro from power but he was too chickenshit to do it. .

Democrats have never thought Communism was much of a threat because they are all enamored with the idea of the US being a socialist paradise.

That is the reason why the entire world is now dominated by Communism.

What right does the US have to demand capitulation from the Syrian government?

Clearly you terrorist sympathisers are in the wrong.

Cuba is not part of the US. Never has been. Kennedy no more had the "authority" to remove anybody there from power than Eisenhower did to remove Mosaddegh, a Dullesian clusterfuck we're still paying for. Don't give me this textbook happy horseshit jingoist commies-under-every-bush history, I know better.

Sometimes I read things that help me put other posts in perspective.

Ad hominem?

usually I purposely pay no attention to who the poster is of a particular thread or response.

Let me explain in a round about way. For fifteen years I played hockey and never got in a fight. It was largely because I'm bad with remembering faces especially when I'm busy. I might remember how a fella's hips moved when he got around me but not his face.

On here I also don't remember who most of my fellow poster's are. It keeps me from holding grudges and I think serves me well since I'm not gonna dedicate the time to remember who is susceptible to this or that logic failing or who agreed with me on this aspect of protectionism or who said Bill shouldn't be President because he cheated on his wife or who cussed out Bill for signing NAFTA.

Every so often it clicks though and I remember who posted something else.

Imagine if you have a friend who kept talking up the MarkIV's and Panthers and wore his Desert Fox t-shirt around. He just might love tank warfare.

Then one day he is complaining about how the cop's treated the anti-white supremacist protestors better than the white supremacist protestors.

Suddenly it clicks where he is coming from and how everything he says in the future is taken as if Josef Mengele said it.

The idea that Kennedy who started Vietnam war because he was a closet communist aside....

There is a logic failure there and I suggest you reconsider before bringing that up again.

Would you have invaded Cuba in 1963? Real boots on the ground not just the bay of pigs?

How about 1973 as we were winding down Vietnam?

1983, we weren't in Vietnam anymore, why didn't that coward commie sympathizer Reagan do it?

1991 fresh off Desert Storm, we had faith in our military by then, the coward BushH?

The W's days before 911?

Did Trump invade Cuba yet?

Ignoring the covert attempts to assassinate F. Castro as they would have just put R. Castro in power and vilified the U.S. why didn't we invade in any of them years? If anything the Bay of Pigs was the closest any of our Presidents came to doing SOMETHING about the Cuba non-problem.

I'm gonna give you another idea to further the conversation along. Partially thanks to the embargo Communism looked pretty bad in Cuba. While we were driving 85 Tercels around they were driving 1950's Chevrolets (bad example, but you get the point, the place was hurting economically). We could have Cuba there as a bad example of communism while Puerto Rico and the other luxurious destinations of Capitalism were in the same area.

I always found this interesting about the failings of capitalism (which is better than socialism) in Cuba: Cuban Revolution
