If China overtakes the US economically, does that spell doom for the US?

China has a population five times that of the US and is just now getting an economy of the size of the US. It still means they have per capita GDP of one fifth the US

China needs a huge economy, they still have 500 million peasants living off the land. They lack infrastructure, sanitation, hospitals in the outlying provinces

I have no problem with China being able to do better for their people
