I have no problem with pornography. Why? Because I know what I like in a guy and what I don't like. I don't go by the looks of guys in porn or what the media tells me the ideal guy looks and acts like. Some people can't draw the line between such things and they in turn incur all that is said and held up as an example for such things that have been said in defense of being anti-porn. I don't objectify people because people aren't objects, they're humans. They're living, breathing, sentient beings.

I only saw it once, that was enough, it was 1971 so medical science has probably come up with a much more sophisticated range of responses than would have been available back then in a small outback hospital.

I’ve been fully “in the rats” 3 times and had milder withdrawal hallucination many times. DT’s happen not when you are spastic, but when your blood volume begins to exceed and contaminate your alcohol system.

I've also watched helplessly as my youngest daughter, Mandy, went through them in the police cells at Prahran in my home state. Thank Christ by then I was sober member of AA and able to convince the coppers there to call a doctor, who admitted her to hospital.

My first time was when I voluntarily surrender myself for detox at "Aurora House," a Catholelick run detox (although I didn’t know that at the time or I would never have gone there!) in Melbourne. Naturally their Devil-dodging philosophy was alcoholism was sinful and the treatment consisted of “Aversion Therapy.”

This is when you are allowed to go into the DT’s, medically unsupervised. The theory being it will be so bad you will never drink again. I swear on Sam and Lochie that I wouldn’t even put the most rabid Christian on earth through an ordeal like that.

Aurora House doesn’t do AT any more because of some deaths and the families of one, I believe, of the unsuccessful Stiffs that didn't garduate suing them.

Anyhow, 3 days after my admission into Aurora House, I duly went into The Dings. After Satan only knows how many headless, limbless and eviscerated men, deafening bagpipe music, talking Technicolor snakes 2 feet deep, ASIS assassins trying to con the attendants into “interviewing” me, and my fathers decomposing corpse appearing in my bed, I bowled over 2 very large male and 1 female minders and was off like a Jews foreskin, nude, up Footscray Road. The coppers they called eventually caught me and returned me to my night and morning of stark raving insanity.

Needless to say - if you are an alcoholic – when the Boots at this establishment dropped me home after 10 days, he hadn’t driven out of the car park in the block of flats were I lived before I was swigging from a bottle of Remy Martin brandy. A week or so later I was back again for another round.

Believe me; NOTHING will stop the drunk from drinking except a complete PERSONAL epiphany i.e.

A comprehension or perception of reality by means of a sudden intuitive realization.

There are even cases of desperate-for-a-drink drunks drinking the alcohol that body parts are preserved in! Really makes the saying “a full-bodied red” resonate, doesn’t it! I have drank medicinal (wood) alcohol mixed with Kava and found it quite acceptable – except for the BLINDING headache and terrible dry retching the next day.

My epiphany happened when, waiting for a long delayed pick-up from an island where most of the inhabitants justifiably wanted to kill me, I looked awfully like I would never see my daughters again. So, true to my conditioning, I promised my Catholic mascot God that if I got off I would never drink again.

I did eventually get off – in circumstances my old Catholic A.A sponsor describes as “too surreal to be a coincidence” - and 4 years later I finally kept my promise.

So there! I AM saved, Gunny. Far more saved than you will ever be, you satanic Sassenach suck-holing Souper!

I think it's stupid that you quit Soda if you love it. You only live once..You love Soda but yet you say you will NEVER drink it. Well you may get hit by a truck tomorrow..bet you wish you had that nice tasty soda earlier now didn't you.

Addictions are very real, that dosent mean they cant be overcome though.

Some years ago I hit my addictions head on and quit the following...

1. cigarettes
2. soda (diet and regular)
3. processed foods
4. meat

The hardest were the soda and processed foods. I also started jogging daily but now alternate between that and my stationary bike (to ease problems on knees). Exercize is addictive, I cant imagine a day without doing it. I love it now! Its the first thing I do everyday and when I was sick and couldnt for a few days....I felt a craving for it most definitely and was sooo glad to get back out there.

The absolute hardest was the soda and processed foods with soda being the absolute hardest. I will NEVER drink one again....I am all water now!

Erik Viking....I am assuming you are a swede and are doing the snus. My husband also used to use snus, I admit I am VERY glad he quit. I think he had a harder time quitting snus than I did quitting smoking!

No, I loved smoking too....but its good for me to give up those things because they are quite bad for my health and quality of life is most definitely related to overall health.
