if an R is elected in 2012 what part of the government will get smaller?

Republicans haven't been Conservative since Coolidge with maybe the rare appearance by Goldwater. So don't bet on any government getting smaller.

Whoever is running in 2012 will certainly talk a big game like they are going to shrink gov't. It's a bunch of bullshit but millions of Americans and dozens of posters here will eat it up.

Very possible. Hopefully the person will have an established track record of doing that type of thing from their past experiences.

the military?

the entitlements?

which agencies will be removed? Dept of education or agriculture?

which agencies budgets will be cut?

what powers will be revoked / shrunk? (patriot act, new fisa laws, power of the epa, power of the irs, any?)

corporate bailouts / welfare?

just wondering why we shouldn't stick with the dems and their quick path to bankruptcy/insolvency. waiting on the Rs to get us there slowly is just wasting time.

edit: will government healtchare spending be cut? we already spend more than any other country by a long shot and this is before the 'government take over'

ALL OF THE ABOVE--WITH THE EXCEPTION OF KEEPING THIS COUNTRY SAFE.

Hell Yeah--:lol::lol::lol:

Certainly not the part that legislates "morality".

Other than that they MIGHT turn off the lights when they leave rooms in the white house more often... shit idk?:(

none, the GOP sucks at math, they want to cut taxes, but won't cut medicare, social security, other entitlements, defense, or DHS, and can't cut interest, this leaves just 17% in the balance, much of which they won't touch either

when I see John McCain whining about $3 million telescopes, but vigorously fighting $400 billion in medicare cuts, it makes me think every GOP Senator and Congressmen needs a lesson in remedial math

there is a solution - keep Barry in there with a GOP/Blue Dog congress, they'll get nothing done, which will prevent the budget from growing like it did under W

Who exactly has a track record of doing that type of thing? Name names.

Nice pre-Olympic avatar uscitizen. Government better get smaller in the realms of pork and entitlements. If not, then the R should be replaced with an I or D that will.

Thanks on the avitar. On the other, we tried that a time or two already.

Not sure what we need to do? Vote everyone in there out that has been in over 2 terms?

We do have term limits power with our votes if we choose to exercise it. Most of us won't however for partisan reasons.

It seems that most of us deserve what we are getting.

The article seems to say that Laura Bush had about the same number of attendants.

Yeah right I know Laura is not president!

You were in the Wizard of Oz, weren't you, Strawman?

*yawn*

A three party system? What say you? It might be difficult to get anything done.

We all do better when government gets nothing done.

But a third party would guarantee that legislation would be discussed not just rammed down our throats because no one party could ever hold a super majority and hopefully rational compromises would be made.
