I have come up with a magic solution that I believe will help satisfy neo-socialists and the others who don't believe in this from of government. If you as a neo-socialist want or desire as your "patriotic duty" to contribute more in taxes simply add another box on the 1040 form with the same label and check it off and write in an amount and pay that. The rest who do not wish to contribute to this government sponsored free for all can opt out and be comfortable in our unpatriotic label. That way your incomes can fund, your tax cuts, your free medical care, your free dental care, your free eye care, your free medicine, your free college. Just let those who do not wish to pay their neighbors bills have the ability to just pay their own and I will be happy to let you have all the credit for the "change"

"Property is the fruit of labor...property is desirable...is a positive good in the world. That some should be rich shows that others may become rich, and hence is just encouragement to industry and enterprise. Let not him who is houseless pull down the house of another; but let him labor diligently and build one for himself, thus by example assuring that his own shall be safe from violence when built." Abraham Lincoln

Do you think this would really work?

And hello Navy, it has been awhile!

This thought had crossed my mind as well.

To me Cali, as some are so set on a great government give away then I say let them have the opportunity to do so, as long as they pay for it. Just don't force me pay my neighbors bills. If someone is that moved to pay for their neighbors healthcare then why have they not gone out and bought them health insurance by now? Well IMHO , go for it I won't complain, feel free to donate as much someone is compelled to do.

Of course not. Because people that bitch about wanting free health care are probably already covered under their company's plan. So they're not going to want to pay extra for someone else's health care anymore than the rest of us do. Publicly, they're all for taking care of the less fortunate, but when push comes to shove, they want to keep as much of their paychecks as they possibly can.

Hello there Luissa , and I have no idea, most likely not but at least it gives those that are compelled to provide others with all the massive government programs the ability to do so. I even will go as far to say, that if I don't contribute, then I don't get. how's that? BTW I hope all is well.

I don't have a problem with this and I think a lot of people would step up.

Oh and I thought it would also be nice if you could say where you wanted you taxes to go - if you specifically want to fund law enforcement but not education for exanmple.

It would create bureaucraacy and not tenable in the end, but it is interesting to think about.

I have stated in other threads Cali that Universal Healthcare while a noble goal will never be accomplished unless congress or the president do something that is compeletly unconstitutional and thats mandate Universal Healthcare and nationalize the Health Insurance industry. You have a little problem with the 10th Amendment on that one. Further, there are exactly ZERO mentions of Healthcare being a right in the constitution. So then you have a constitutional amendment issue, and do you think that 2/3rds of the state will ratify such an amendment? Now this doesn't mean I am heartless it simply means that from a realistic point of view if you wish to cover as many people as you can then get the government in the regulatory business like they are constitutionally chartered to do. You can do both actually and create an optional program of healthcare with monies that people have directed be taken from their incomes over and above their normal tax rate if you wish. However, as a gerneral rule when you get into the business of letting people pay for what they want to pay for and what they don't want to pay for you better have a million people to administer something like that. I was simply pointing out, that if someone wished to contribute to a universal healthcare program that is not under authorized under the constitution then by all means let them, however if they make it mandatory then you run into lots of legal issues.

You probably have a point but I don't see people doing this, I might since I get such a good return being a single mother. Personally I think I get to much back, I get more back then I pay. I do have to say I have not given the $3 the last two years.
And everything is good, well as good as it can be! haha

Another reason I suggested it, is because of the Obama campaigns ability to raise money, why not keep it going to buy health insurance for the people you want ? Then save the US taxpayer some real money.

Sorry Navy, someone already stole your plan. It's called "charity" and, by coincidence, it is tax deductable. And who gives the most? Those same rich people who are "unpatriotic" for not giving the government enough tax money.

Here are the top 60 charitable philanthropists, the amounts they gave or pledged and what it funded for the last 10 years.

Thats the important thing though, good as it can be is really important. I'm just happy when my taxes get done to be honest these days and frankly with the way the Feds. have been spending it recently and the need for the money here locally having the ability to direct it doesn't sound so bad. lol I don't see many opting in to do this though.

Convert to a percent of their disposable income and then see if they still come out on top.
