South Carolina voter ID law rejected by Justice Department - latimes.com

Reporting from Washington— The Obama administration's civil rights office is stepping up its fight with the Southern states over voting rights, announcing it will block a new South Carolina law that would require voters to show a government-issued photo identification before casting a ballot.

The Justice Department invoked the Voting Rights Act on Friday and said the new photo-identification rule could deny the right to vote for tens of thousands of blacks and other minorities.

"According to the state's statistics, there are 81,938 minority citizens who are already registered to vote and who lack DMV-issued identification," Thomas E. Perez, the chief of the department's civil rights division, said in a letter to South Carolina officials. He referred to a driver's license issued by the state Department of Motor Vehicles, the most common form of photo identification.

81,938 voters in one state.

This is why the republicans want to have these laws to keep voters from voting.

Remember they dont want everyone to vote

(Found: 207,000 Democratic voters. First remove the National Guard from the borders, then provide the buses from the border to the individual states polling places. New Haven, Ct's Mayor John "There won't be any Fire Department promotions from this class because they all have too many vowels in their last names" Distefano says he wants to stop the charade and just let them all vote openly, citizen or not)

"... It was no surprise when DOJ announced today that it has rejected South Carolina’s voter identification law. Under Eric Holder, the Department of Justice has become a political arm of the Democratic Party. South Carolina officials said that they would fight DOJ’s ruling in court, pointing out that the Department was relying on grotesquely inaccurate data:

Department of Motor Vehicles executive director Kevin Shwedo said the state Election Commission knew it was using inaccurate data when it released reports showing nearly 240,000 active and inactive voters lacked driver’s licenses or ID cards.

Shwedo sent the state’s attorney general an analysis showing that 207,000 of those voters live in other states, allowed their ID cards to expire, probably have licenses with names that didn’t match voter records or were dead. He said the commission created “artificially high numbers to excite the masses.”

How many of those 207,000 will cast ballots for Democratic candidates in November if Obama and Holder get their way? A lot, I suspect."

The Justice Department? Holder's Justice Department?

That answers the question. The Justice Department is a criminal enterprise.

Facts? You wouldn't know a fact if it stuck to your pointed head.

Here is the law, read it and tell me where it says that a registered voter that doesn't have a photo id can't vote.

SECTION 7-13-710. Proof of right to vote; signing poll list; comparison of signatures.

When any person presents himself to vote, he shall produce his valid South Carolina driver's license or other form of identification containing a photograph issued by the Department of Motor Vehicles, if he is not licensed to drive, or the written notification of registration provided for by Sections 7-5-125 and 7-5-180 if the notification has been signed by the elector. If the elector loses or defaces his registration notification, he may obtain a duplicate notification from his county board of registration upon request in person, or by telephone or mail. After presentation of the required identification, his name must be checked by one of the managers on the margin of the page opposite his name upon the registration books, or copy of the books, furnished by the board of registration. The managers shall keep a poll list which must contain one column headed "Names of Voters". Before any ballot is delivered to a voter, the voter shall sign his name on the poll list, which must be furnished to the appropriate election officials by the State Election Commission. At the top of each page the voter's oath appropriate to the election must be printed. The signing of the poll list or the marking of the poll list is considered to be an affirmation of the oath by the voter. One of the managers shall compare the signature on the poll list with the signature on the voter's driver's license, registration notification, or other identification and may require further identification of the voter and proof of his right to vote under this title as he considers necessary. If the voter is unable to write or if the voter is prevented from signing by physical handicap, he may sign his name to the poll list by mark with the assistance of one of the managers.

Frankly, if a person has a year to attain id and can't be bothered, then yes, fuck 'em. Voting can't mean much to them if they can't make that effort, and I don't care if they are white black blue or green.

so you are for keeping legal Americans from voting to protect nothing but to punish them for not meeting your arbitrary rules
