Philadelphia, Amazing huh...
I was just looking at their site after a thread in the WOT Board peaked my interest.

Here's one of their songs, Declaration Day.

A desperate situation
Forced to retaliation
The task ahead a burden
Men will suffer, that’s for certain
We’ll charge into the fire
The cause, we must inspire
We raise our fists to tyranny
A high price, freedom is not free

The odds are stacked against us
But with our resolve relentless
And arrogance their weakness
Our cause is just, we won’t be beaten
Upon this declaration
Will come a brand new nation
Where men are seen as equal
Governed by and for the people

Chorus
So we make our stand and pray
On this Declaration Day
For independence I will fight
With liberty I will defy
So we make our stand and pray
On this Declaration Day
Give me liberty or give me death
I’ll fight ‘til my last breath

With virtue as our beacon
Our cause is charged as treason
Battleworn and starving
Through the hell of war we’ll keep marching
The birth of our new nation
An act of desperation
We’ll force King George down to his knees
Capitulation

Chorus
And so we make our stand and pray
On this Declaration Day
For independence I will fight
With liberty I will defy
So we make our stand and pray
On this Declaration Day
Give me liberty or give me death
I’ll fight ‘til my last breath

Very powerful. Very Patriotic.

The Glorious Burden
After spending much of their career focusing on dark fantasy and similar themes, The Glorious Burden marks a turn towards reality for Iced Earth. The album specifically covers events in world history, and because history is often defined by conflict and tragedy, the tone remains just as dark, epic, and powerful as previous works from the band. The album goes as far back as the fifth century A.D. with Atilla the Hun's ravages across Europe, and as far forward as the terrorist attacks in America in 2001. In between, there is the American Revolution ("Declaration Day", "Valley Forge"), the Napoleonic Wars ("Waterloo"), and World War I ("Red Baron/Blue Max"). The album's centerpiece, however, is "Gettysburg (1863)", a three-part, 32-minute epic that tells the tale of the defining battle of the American Civil War. Backed up with a full orchestra and led by the vocals of new singer Tim Owens (ex-Judas Priest), the music portrays the tremendous power and emotion that must have been present when those two great armies clashed, with the fate of a nation hanging in the balance. Taken as a whole, The Glorious Burden proves that some of our most amazing and resonant stories come not from the imagination of mankind, but rather, from our real-life deeds, for good and ill, throughout all of human history.

This is the synopsis of their new album. Their music kicks ass too. This is my new favorite band.

Because I'm basically deaf, I'm not all that into music. I think this group may be worth a listen with headphones.

Since your deaf it might not matter, but try to keep the volume low because they Wail, Judas Priest Style (obviously with Tim Owens as their Lead singer).

Regardless of music type, those lyrics kick some major ass. I usually listen to hip-hop and the occasional Green Day. But with lyrics like that, they could sound like The White Stripes and still be ok in my book!

Insein, reread the lyrics, but this time think of a liberal saying this to a crowd of younger stupider liberals to rally them for a socialist revolution against george bush. I don't know if it was intentional, but it reads well both ways. That's how I read it at first, and I thought THEY were insinuating the parallel with their repeated used use of DECLARATION. I actually think it was constructed to be this way, upon further reflection.

I read it the same way you did RWA --"Force King George down to his knees"???

But it also makes total sense the other way too. Purposefully ambiguous. Great art expresses great ideas and their opposites, celebrates values and their opposites. I think I may buy this cd too.

Ah but you havent seen the other thread where Schafer their lyricist, has an interview with a canadian socialist and tears him to shreds. Here it is.

http://www.usmessageboard.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=7002

This guy is an avid Pro-American, Pro-Bush supporter.

BW&BK: "What's your position on Iraq? Do you think the US was justified in going into that country and doing what it did?"

JS: "I think the truth is going to be known in the future. And people who are out to spin news in a certain way to make it look like a complete disaster are actually very dangerous people. And I'm not sure what the agenda is. I do believe that the truth will come out in time. Right now, we don't know all the facts. We can't know all the facts, because this is a different kind of war. Some of my best friends are special forces guys out there doing it. That are involved. And I can tell you from reading between the lines and being around these people that there is no doubt in their minds that when everything comes out that we are going to be vindicated on the world stage. And it's just a matter of time. There are going to be a lot of people out there that are going to hate that day because they fuckin' hate us. And they're so jealous of us and so disgusted with us or whatever it is. I do think it's bigger than me, you or any other citizen out there. We don't have the facts. There are people out there who have the information. This is their job, let 'em do it. If we found out those people lied to us, then let them hang for it. But, until all the proof and facts are out on the table, I'm going to stand by the United States of America."

BW&BK: "So you don't see the Bush regime as being cultural imperialists? You don't see them as trying to force the American way of life on to a nation that maybe doesn't want it?"

JS: "No. If you think that's true, then why are 70 or 80 percent of the people are thrilled to have us there. Have you not seen that? And it's not a regime, by the way. You keep up that kind of language I'm going to end the interview right now."

That makes his intentions pretty clear to me, RWA.

To construct it both ways raises the question of evaluating it each way. Real art considers both sides. It was honest when our forefathers said it; when libs today say it, they're being insincere, because freedom is not what they want, socialism is, yet they cloak it in pro american terms.

I agree he is a genius, and most likely leans toward conservative.

Here's the one for 9/11

When the Eagle Cries
Music & Lyrics by Jon Schaffer

Another day just like any other
Out of the blue it turned to horror
How could they?
Why would they?
The innocent suffered hell’s inferno
A senseless act that goes unforgotten
How could they?
They will pay

Chorus
When the eagle cries
Blood will flow
When the eagle cries
For freedom’s fight
When the eagle cries
We love her so
When the eagle cries
We will sacrifice

Out of the ashes came a tempting vengeance
But we are focused, we seek redemption
We are free
We’ll stay free
All they’ve done is make us stronger
The sleeping giant is asleep no longer
If need be
We’ll die free

Chorus
When the eagle cries
Blood will flow
When the eagle cries
For freedom’s fight
When the eagle cries
We love her so
When the eagle cries
We will sacrifice

This whole Glorius Burden album kicks ass.
