I Voted Democrat

I voted Democrat because freedom of speech is fine as long as nobody is hurt by it.

Unbelievable.

What's unbelievable about it?

That an American would think it was okay to restrict freedom of speech for any reason.

Ever heard of hate speech? What if your child was a racial minority at a school and heard racial epithets directed at him/her? Wouldn't you think that people should be protected from such behavior? Hate speech IS against the law. Personally, I think we should get rid of the regulations against osbcenity that are enforced by the FCC. If someone doesn't want their children to hear the word "Fuck" on tv, then they shouldn't allow their children to watch those channels which air obscene words like that. Its avoidable. However, language directed in such a way as to harm a person is just the same as abuse and violence directed to harm someone.

What's so difficult to believe?

Do you have kids? Just flipping through the channels I hear loads of crap -- most anything is allowed except shit, fuck and the like on basic tv. LOL, yeah "it's avoidable" if you monitor every single minute of tv viewing. You know what I just bought? Something called a TV Guardian to edit out the language on tv. I hate types that spout 'then just don't let them watch it' when 'it' is all over the place. I'd like tighter regulations against foul language on tv. But you know, Hollywood likes the bar low.

Freedom of speech? All for it. Respect and consideration for others goes a long way though. So does a thick skin.

Gosh Dive, you better watch out or you might harm someone's feelings. :doubt:

Well, you could not watch tv or not allow your children to watch it. Not to tell you how to raise your children, but it seems that not watching tv wouldn't hurt kids at all! I barely watched tv until I hit my teens and by then obscene language had become so ubiquitous in my daily life that I was entirely desensitized to it. That is until I enlisted in the Marine Corps and realized just how clean tv language really was!

It seems logical that one could watch PBS or other public stations which are more about education and cultural learning than the crap which is aired on cable or broadcast stations. That's how it is avoidable. Or one could watch the Hallmark or Christian channels. Don't conservatives believe in smaller government? Let the companies who run the stations decide to whom to market and allow the consumers to make the decisions.

Back to my point about hate speech: if you were a young, black student, for example, at a primarily white school and you constantly heard racial epithets or were exposed to similar hate-expressions, wouldn't it become so intolerable as to cause you to either quit or become traumatized? Or vice versa, being a white student? Or a female student or employee at a primarily male institution? Or gay? Or straight among homosexuals? Or conservative among liberals? Or a cop among civilians, or a soldier returning from Vietnam? Doesn't such use of language, of speech, constitute assault to a degree? Doesn't it harm people to behave that way?

Shouldn't a culture which believes itself so humane enforce regulations to ensure that the members of its civilization treat each other humanely?

As logical as that might seem on the surface, in practice this would only breed hatred and anger which would ignite violence. I think, hope, that human beings can be kinder to eachother and make some real progress from the level of humanity in the past i.e. the industrial revolution, slavery, Jim Crowe laws, women's sufferage, world wars, etc. etc. etc. I'd like to think that as a race we have evolved beyond such inhumane ways. We did pass a Civil Rights Act almost half a century ago.

And why are hate crime laws bullshit?

You voted democrat because you want to control the actions of others without employing a democratic process to do it.

Because you think you're better.

Bravo. Not only are you an idiot, you're a fascist as well.

The two generally go hand in hand.

Okay...:eusa_eh: That's a lot to infer from my posts. So I gather that I'm a fascist and an idiot, and you're a mind reader?

Well, whatever you want to believe, go for it, because I'm sure there's nothing anyone can do, especially me whose opinion in your own perception you've already delegitimated, that would change or open your mind.

Keep the faith!

I don't have to read your mind, idiot. You spelled it all out yourself.

Hate speech laws are bullshit, and they will be used to muzzle religion in this country. Those children who have racial epithets hurled at them have recourse through the law without hate speech laws b.s.

BTW, the only true hate speech I've ever experienced was hurled at me by an Indian calling detention. She called me a white assed bitch. Freaked me out a bit, I was afraid she had the place scoped out. We'd had our county sheriff killed some years back in the parking lot by kids intending to break out a compadre, and a riot in the detention center which left one man severely beaten and a woman with a broken jaw.

I've been called white this and white that in a derogatory fashion through the years by blacks and Indians. Is that hate speech, too?

I don't have to read your mind, idiot. You spelled it all out yourself.

You know what? You're right! I wrote posts that obviously declared to anyone reading them: HEY! I'm a fascist! Look at my idiotic opinion - I must be an idiot! But I wouldn't have known without your help, AllieBaba! Thanks for telling me that I'm an idiot.

Hey, everyone, AllieBaba just converted me from being a radical leftist liberal to a conservative right-wing Christian by telling me that I'm an idiot! Why doesn't this work for the rest of those idiotic liberals! What fascists! What godless socialists!

Anyway, great work AllieBaba! Way to demonstrate the quality of your opinion and the eloquence of your mind. If only more conservatives represented themselves the way you do! Hey, wait! They DO!:clap2:

The opinions you voiced are fascism. YOu admitted to wanting to make decisions for people, that you don't think individuals are competent to handle their own lives or their own money.

That makes you a fascist. The fact that you want to pretend it doesn't (or perhaps you just don't understand) makes you an idiot.

Sorry, it is what it is.

Liberals do not want to muzzle religion. That is akin to a conspiracy theory. Most liberals are very spiritual and would never want to keep someone from believing in whatever creator they wished, that is until those beliefs harmed another person or restricted their freedoms without rational purpose.

And yes, what you experienced was hate speech. I've experienced the same myself, especially in the Marine Corps. I've been called honkey, whitey, cracker, etc. etc. I've been called a racist, gay, a nerd, a dork, a loser, ugly, stupid, and most recently, an idiot. But, unlike the people who called me those names I try not to express my fear or hatred in a way that harms other people. In fact, I try not to fear and hate. Try it, its great! Jesus would.

If I'm an idiot for not trusting ignorance, or ignorant people, well, hand me the dunce cap! I'll wear it proudly! If that's fascism, then I guess I don't understand the the dictionary...

fascism - Definition from the Merriam-Webster Online Dictionary

Bullshit. Liberals do want to muzzle religion. Hence the desire to expand "hate speech" to include passages of the bible, and Obama's push to get government officials involved in the churches.

Their desire to eliminate religion is evinced every time some limp wristed parfait lisps about "separation of church and state" as being some sort of LAW that requires that no politician can refer to his or her religion in public, or ever dare to make decisions based upon an abiding faith in that religion. Not only is "separation of church and state" not a law, the purpose of maintaining a separation of church and state was to KEEP THE FUCKING GOVERNMENT OUT OF RELIGION, period. So people COULD WORSHIP WITHOUT FEAR OF REPERCUSSIONS, WITHOUT FEAR OF BEING DISCRIMINATED AGAINST, AND WITHOUT FEAR OF BEING KEPT FROM POLITICAL OFFICE based upon their religion.

The government has absolutely no right to tell us what we can and can't say about our religions. The government has absolutely no right to demand that we not make decisions that are faith based. We have the RIGHT (and we fought a war to win that right) to worship as we please, and to expect protection when it comes to adhering to our religions.

You might as well make your siggy line "I am an idiot" now, to save me the trouble from continually pointing out the obvious, and so we can spare others the bother as well.

Fuck you, idiot. Not agreeing with your wonderfully well thought out fascist views does not make people ignorant.

Here you go, idiot. I don't need a link, I'll just post the definition. Now you read over your own posts, slowly, where you state you support the government telling people who are too stupid to handle their own money or lives, and see how this fits:

fas·cism [ fá shìzzəm ] or Fas·cism [ fá shìzzəm ]

noun

Definition:

dictatorial movement: any movement, ideology, or attitude that favors dictatorial government, centralized control of private enterprise, repression of all opposition, and extreme nationalism

Do you have kids? Again, it's easy for people to spout 'well just turn the channel; well just turn it off'. Well, how about tv cleans up it's act a bit so people have the freedom to let their kids what tv without hearing Murphy Brown screaming 'son of a bitch' as she births her child, or some kid calling the other kids 'assholes' on a TBS movie at 2 in the afternoon . . . when they are turning the channel to Disney.

I don't want my kids desensitized to it, I want them to realize that just because they can use this language doesn't mean they should. Just because they hear it on the bus or at school does not mean that I am going to condone it and let them watch whatever on tv. lol we're probably stricter than most people . . . but having the bar set higher rather than lower is a good thing if you ask me.

Truly - I'm not lying: MOST liberals respect others' religious and spiritual beliefs. I'm an agnostic, I don't believe in a creator but I don't rule out the fact that there just might be one. My belief in a higher power consists of: I don't know. Maybe, maybe not. There is no observational or testable evidence either way. So I'm open to it being either way. But since one can't logically prove there is a God, and its illogical to believe in something because there isn't any evidence that it doesn't exist, I don't believe in a creator. But if Jesus were to appear before me and smack me upside the head and say, "Hey, Idiot. I exist!", well, I'd believe. My point is that I don't like when someone else's religious beliefs are foisted onto me and I have to live by those beliefs or I find that my freedoms or basic human rights are restricted because of those beliefs. I don't mind when those beliefs coincide with rational ethics i.e. don't murder, steal, rape, have sex with my sister, etc. etc. But when its simply a religious reason (like don't use contraceptives or be gay) without reasonable evidence to show that those religious rules make sense in this world or that living differently from those rules causes harm, then I DO mind. And when those rules are put forth as the ONLY righteous rules there can ever possibly be, well, I don't think so.

The reason homosexuals resent religion's influence is that it restricts their rights. Not just too marry, but to enjoy all the same rights and status as every other US citizen. There might not be a law separating church and state but some of the reason(S) that the Constitution and the US came into being is not just to limit the government's influence on religious practices, but to limit religion's influence on government. Either way is repression and the one is theocracy.

In this country you DO have the right to make decisions based upon your faith. But those decisions should be limited to PERSONAL decisions. You shouldn't make decisions for others based on your beliefs. I don't want to make you stop believing in God or reading the Bible or taking your kids to church every Sunday or have an abortion. Why force other people whose beliefs are different (not wrong) from yours live by your beliefs? Liberals would like policy making to be based in reason, logic, and rational thought and that would allow you to worship as you please and for us to worship as we please. Or marry as we please. Or do as we please as long as it doesn't harm others. And we don't want to live in a Christian-governed nation just like you don't want to live in a Islam-governed one. It IS a conspiracy theory to think that liberals want to rid our culture of religion. Most liberals ARE religious. Just not in the traditional sense that conservatives are.

How can you disagree with that? Sounds nice to me!
