I turned off E-mail notification of posted threads, but I am still getting E-mails,!

well, that setting will allow everyone to spam the hell out of his inbox, but has nothinhg to do with email notifications

You have to plead computer ignorance right up front, otherwise (as you've already seen), the "pros" will be relentless in making you feel stupid. Done that, been there. (And yes, I intended to reverse that...)
