A team of 10 security officers are expected to follow shortly afterwards as part of a 6-month contract through an American firm working for the US Government.

Brett Burgis, 31, a director at the company, said: “We’re sending 10, maybe more, for security, close protection and body guarding. It will be possibly VIP personnel out there, and people at high risk.

“With what’s going on at the moment, with the Saddam Hussein trial in Baghdad, it’s not going to be very safe there at all.”

The security guards can earn around £170,000 working for six months at about £1,000 a day.

“They are there to do the job and that’s what they are worth,” Mr Burgis said.

They need to hire about 1000 more and have them train the Iraqi army, police and security.

Yeah, that's what I was thinking.
The sooner they have an elite team of security experts who are native Iraqis, the better.
