Obama this morning signed an executive order establishing the Economic Recovery Advisory Board, which will be headed by Volcker. The members include former Securities and Exchange Commission Chairman William Donaldson, former Fed Vice Chairman Roger Ferguson, UBS Americas Chairman and Chief Executive Officer Robert Wolf, General Electric Co. CEO Jeffrey Immelt and Service Employees International Union Secretary-Treasurer Anna Burger, the administration announced (Bloomberg)

There’s going to have to be a price for carbon,” Immelt said. “In some way, shape of form, you’re going to have to create some certainty. You have to make technology your friend in this debate. But we sit here today Becky, I think about things like global warming. We’ve been on this for four or five years.”

GE's Jeff Immelt: Global Warming 'Compelling'; Cap-and-Trade Most 'Effective' Way to Go

General Electric, the world's largest industrial company, has quietly become the biggest beneficiary of one of the government's key rescue programs for banks.

The company did not initially qualify for the program, under which the government sought to unfreeze credit markets by guaranteeing debt sold by banking firms. But regulators soon loosened the eligibility requirements, in part because of behind-the-scenes appeals from GE.

Loophole Helps GE Benefit From Bank Rescue Program - washingtonpost.com

Lets see to sum all this up, one of Obama's largest campaign donor's , any guess? why yes that would be the CEO of GE Jeffery Immelt. GE is also a member of an environmental board that advises the Govt. on "green policy", I wonder why? Recently with the Defense appropriations bill the DoD was forced to accept an alternate engine for the F-35 even though the one built by P&W has over a 100,000 hours on it and is fully functional and developed and guess who will build it? GE and that engine is not even developed. GE set up a cardon credit trading firm over two years ago and now this cap and trade bill is in the Senate and has already passed the house. What company is that makes these lightbulbs, electrical supplies, and other hardware that will be mandates under the cap and trade bill for every home? Why that would be GE. As for the healthcare bill, What company stands to gain from the passsage of a bill that will require medical records to be all electronic, as well as standards imposed across the board on everything from hospital supplies to MRI's? why that would be GE. So spare me the noble idea's that ANY of the things lately has one thing at all to do with the good of the American people. I have an idea , why don't we just get rid of the stars on the flag and put the GE logo on it, because after we pass all this legislation that will mandate all this GE built hardware and software, we will have mortgaged our nation for this company and it's social agenda.

GE and Satyam Announce Global Alliance to Provide Healthcare IT Services
Satyam’s Healthcare Provider vertical will be first to obtain certification for GE Centricity Enterprise software

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

PRLog (Press Release) – May 21, 2008 – Hyderabad: Satyam Computer Services Ltd. (NYSE:SAY), a leading global consulting and information technology services provider, and GE Healthcare, today announced a comprehensive agreement to support customers deploying healthcare IT solutions based on GE Centricity Enterprise software.

GE and Satyam Announce Global Alliance to Provide Healthcare IT Services

“We are surprised that GE would attempt such a tenuous argument given that the company: acknowledges taking public policy positions on environmental issues like global warming; has called for worldwide reductions in greenhouse gas emissions; works with environmental activist groups that support global warming regulation and has lobbied the federal government for global warming regulations,” said AFM’s Steve Milloy. (4)

Just this week, GE capitulated to pressure from environmental activist shareholders and issued a report to shareholders about the amount of money GE spent during the last 15 years defending itself in the controversy involving the company’s historical releases of PCBs into the Hudson River. (5)

It's interesting that the DNC would for years condemn Exxon, BP, and other oil companies and now have moved on to the insurance companies and at the same time devise a legislative agenda that suits the needs of one the largest companies in the world.

The following statement can be attributed to Environmental Defense President, Fred Krupp, in response to General Electric CEO, Jeffery Immelt's, speech at George Washington University today.

"Today, thanks to the strong leadership of Jeff Immelt, GE becomes by far the largest corporation to commit itself to reduce and cap its worldwide emissions of carbon dioxide and other gases that warm the planet. Mr. Immelt quoted the 'can do' spirit of GE's founder, Thomas Edison: 'I find out what the world needs, then I proceed to invent it.' Today Mr. Immelt, seeing that America needs strong and imaginative leadership on the issue of global warming, has stepped up to the plate to deliver it. He is seizing the big opportunity for U.S. businesses to put American ingenuity to work on the challenge of global warming, by committing his company to develop and market cleaner energy technologies and energy-efficient products.

And this surprises you why? Corporations run the world today.

Actually it doesn't at all, what I find rather amusing, is this. All the talk of how noble and well meaning this legislation is and how we all need to solve whatever the latest crisis and do so in a hurry before it's too late. Too late for whom? GE? because of the investment they have made in all these various fields. For the last year I have heard how evil companies are and how much profits are bad in this industry and CEO salaries, etc etc. and I just thought I might show everyone exactly what the real motivation behind this legislation is and it has nothing at all to do with how badly this president wants to help the American people. Want a really quick example, you know the cash for clunkers program, that many think is the best think since sliced bread. Well if the program had any intention of helping Americans then it would have taken the cars it calls clunkers sold them taken the money and paid the debt with it. What's really interesting about that program is that is will not even have an impact on the environment at all and that the EPA talking not me. So who then stands to gain from this? Perhaps the same auto companies that backed the Obama campaign? So one of the reasons I put GE up here and will continue to do so is to show the utter sillyness of legislation that proposes to spend Trillions while we are in debt and then claim it's good for Americans when the real motivation is there for all to see.
