I Don't See Any Particular Religion As Correct Or Better

Catholics and Baptists are probably the worst extremes of the two facets (Catholic and Protestant), Rob.

Catholics because of all the ritualistic crap you have to do and some of the fear tactics they use.

Baptists because of their holier-than-thou attitudes and religious snobbery that is probably second to Catholics.

Yep, and the more filters you throw into a religion, the less it becomes about God, and more about whoever founded the religion.

Look at Mormonism for that one in addition to the Catholics.

Because of the childhood I had, I ended up going to several different churches.......Catholic, Lutheran, Episcopalian, Baptist, just to name a few.

Every place I went, the people there told me that if I didn't believe as they did, I was going to go to Hell.

By the time I was 16, I'd turned my back on religion, because nobody could agree.

That is the problem. You kept seeking after religion rather than seeking after God. If you seek after Christ, he promises that you will find him. You should have bypassed religion and read the Bible for yourself. Relijains will never agree because they are always seeking to approach God their own way which is most often through their OWN works.

There is only one door to heaven which is Jesus Christ. And if God is the one who built the house called heaven with the door in it then I think I'll listen to God on this one rather than a bunch of lost men who are wandering around beating on the walls wondering why they cannot get in.

Bullshit......and it is Christian assholes like you forcing their beliefs on everyone that made me think there was no decent religion.

Fortunately, I've found a way that works for me, and it's probably a whole lot better than anything that you've got, because it doesn't require you to believe as I do, nor can you force me to believe as you do.

Tell ya what......go rent the documentary "Jesus in India" sometime and look at what that has to say.

And by the way.........don't forget.......Yeshua wasn't Christian, he was Jewish.

Try again you sperm belching cum dumpster of a refugee from a gay porno.

I'm not forcing you to believe any way. You have a free choice.

Again, is that how you fill out your taxes?

Tell ya what......go rent the documentary "Jesus in India" sometime and look at what that has to say.

Again, I am not interested in receiving advice from people who are beating on the walls rather than going through the door. I'd rather listen to the person who built the house and installed the door.

And by the way.........don't forget.......Yeshua wasn't Christian, he was Jewish.

Christ-ian :eusa_doh:

"Christ" means the anointed one. Yes, I know that he was Jewish, but Jesus was Christ whether you want to admit it or not. You were created by God, not the other way around. ;)

A whole lot better? Hmmm... nope... I don't think so

Hey fuckstick...........you did read the part that said "when I was a KID", right?

Ever hear of foster care asshole? My mother died when I was 8, and I was in foster care by 12.

You don't get to choose a religion, you have to take whatever the family you're staying with shoves down your throat.

Reading comprehension by the way cocksucker, because I did say that I was looking and that is where I found Tao, which is very similar to Judaism (God's first religion), and have been happy ever since.

Incidentally, since I've been studying Judaic theology, it makes it easy to sort out the bullshit lies that some dumbshit Christians like yourself lay down, The Lie (you don't get a T as you are a dishonor to the Cross).

Go fuck yourself you arrogant self centered asshole. It's people like you that give Christians a bad name.

I'd bank that Jesus is the Only Way to find God and salvation.
--------------------------

Even Jesus wouldn't agree with that. Good people are good people, regardless of whether they know Christ.

What does "good people" have to do with anything?

The point was obviously to get other people's opinions on the matter and to start a bit of a discussion...

And again I ask, "Why?" Why do you need "a bit of a discussion" about your dislike of religion, or that of the others who flood to do the same thing like flies on an overturned Port-a-Potty? You don't like or believe in religion, fine. What's it to you if other people do, and why do you think anyone is interested in your disbelief, aside from the aforementioned flies?

Basically, youre asking: why try to have a discussion on a internet message board designed for discussion? and what makes you think you can have an opinion and post that opinion on a message board open to anyone to join and post?

I'm a firm believer in the 11th Commandment:

11. Thou shalt keep thy religion to thyself.

This.

Nope. I'm asking why HE, PERSONALLY, feels the need to discuss THIS. What's it to him what other people do and don't believe? Your question is the equivalent of saying, "What do you mean, why does he feel the need to start a thread discussing his next-door neighbor's sexual proclivities? This is the place for discussing things!"

Well, we're discussing. What we're discussing is why he thinks his personal opinion of other people's belief systems matters to anyone, and what he thinks he's accomplishing by proudly sharing his personal information with people who didn't ask.

If you're so impressed with the idea of keeping your religion to yourself, why aren't YOU the one asking why he felt the need to thrust his religious positions in front of everyone?

What's it to you that he wants to engage in a discussion? What the fuck is up with smug assholes? Did someone put fecal cubes in your coffee as opposed to sugar?

What the fuck is up with hypocrites who ignore the smug assholery of starting a thread dedicated to "I think the vast majority of the world's population is stupid and unenlightened compared to me", but get their panties in a ruffle because someone quite reasonably questions what possible business other people's beliefs are of his?

You want to rail against smug assholery, make it evenhanded, or wear the label yourself.

You want religious snobbery, no one can hold a candle to atheists. This bunch of self-satisfied, elitist jagoffs make Jehovah's Witnesses look shy and retiring in their evangelical zeal, and THEN top it off with the sheer, baldfaced hypocrisy of claiming they don't proselytize.

I have yet to attend a social event where a Christian of ANY stripe loudly held forth on how everyone else's beliefs are wrong, and their own are vastly superior, but I have been to two just in the last month where atheists did so.

I was raised Christian, my family up north is mostly Catholic, and my family farther down south where I currently live isn't really anything particular but I guess I'd classify them as Baptists/Methodists.

My mother and brother remain active church members and I like the idea of the church environment and people but I just don't follow or get into the ideas of Jesus being Christ and the rest of the religion.

Politically, I actually am very conservative and fully support Christian morals.

But I have a deep mind, I've just put a lot of thought and research into the topic and have come to the conclusion that it simply all just doesn't seem real to me.

It seems very likely to me that religions are just beliefs that were developed mostly during the times where humanity was incredibly more primative than it is now, and was used to keep civilizations in order and to answer questions to the simple-minded as far as how they got there, and what their purpose is, and how to "live after death."

Anyone else in this boat?

Anyone have any comments?

I loved the line of yours I have highlighted. I am in agreement, completely. I also welcome you as a new( ish ) member and realize you may not have read dozens of these topics on religion, or lack thereof.

Religion offers people hope of an afterlife and if their faith ( for that is what it is ) brings them that and happiness and joy, then I am no one to question them, for I share in their happiness for them. I love to see people have beliefs that make them feel good and doesn't harm others.

If I believed in an afterlife, I would choose the philosophy of Buddhism, for it advocates that too. I live my life, without effort, according to the Golden Rule. My morality is solid and my principals, many.

I agree with Thomas Jefferson on one of his many quotes on religion: But it does me no injury for my neighbor to say there are twenty gods or no God. It neither picks my pocket nor breaks my leg. -Thomas Jefferson, 1782

I am sorry to hear that.

You don't get to choose a religion, you have to take whatever the family you're staying with shoves down your throat.

Jesus never said that it would be easy but he did promise peace to those that seek him. (John 16:23, John 14:27, Isaiah 26:3, Psalm 31:20, etc.)

Reading comprehension by the way cocksucker, because I did say that I was looking and that is where I found Tao, which is very similar to Judaism (God's first religion), and have been happy ever since.

I read that, and you went through a long list of "denominations." What I said is that you should read through the Bible and ask for the Holy Spirit to guide you. And if you truly seek him he will guide you.

Sometimes we go to men for the answers, but if it is God who created us, then should we not look to him for our guidance?

Incidentally, since I've been studying Judaic theology, it makes it easy to sort out the bullshit lies that some dumbshit Christians like yourself lay down, The Lie (you don't get a T as you are a dishonor to the Cross).

Such as???

Go fuck yourself you arrogant self centered asshole. It's people like you that give Christians a bad name.

Maybe you can explain what I said that was self centered.

Agnosticism is the only honest one, every other one just makes up the answer to unknown questions

Let me be the first to ask: and you're telling us this because why?

I'm not just trying to be snarky (hell, when have I ever had to TRY?). I honestly have never understood the compulsion so many people have to announce that they find religion silly or wrong or whatever, as though they imagine the whole world has been breathlessly waiting for them to release a statement on the subject.

And I would honestly like one of them to tell me why they think anyone cares what they think about it? Exactly what do you folks believe you're accomplishing with this?

Or the compulsion of religious people to constantly have to show others how much faith they have. Sure you have no problem with that.

And did you forget this is a message board to state opinions and discuss anything, no compulsions, no hidden meaning, etc.

Who the fuck cares whY? Why are you in this thread and whining about it? What's it to you what anybody posts and wants to discuss? Hypocrite

Fail to see any smuggery in the post below. Reading comprehension not strong with this one. just another insecure religious person who gets so angry anytime they hear people disagree with their religion

So you don't think that a religion that advocates love and peace isnt better than a religion that conducts human sacrifice?

Even Jesus wouldn't agree with that. Good people are good people, regardless of whether they know Christ.

What do good people have to do with anything? He is talking about finding God and salvation. Good people have nothing to do with it.

Though I would contend that we arent nearly as good as we all seem to think.
