I realize that this is a personal prefrence yet what is the wisdom of American foreign relations "choosing" one side or the other? Being so quick to defend Israel has put us in the line of fire. It would appear the me that a more balanced approach would serve the countries' interersts better.

And unlike Europe we're not just going to leave them to the slaughter because we might catch some crossfire, that for snivelling cowards like Spain. When the Pals make a threat against us about this we'll know they've gone truly insane.

As for fencewalking we dole out 2 billion to Egypt and another billion to Jordan and Lebanon since 1975 or so, and also another 3 Billion to Isreal. Thank Carter for that plan. They all like money more than war and that's why no war has come, because America bribes the major players. We may lean to Israel but nobody but America has guarateed the peace among them for so long. That's a balanced approach.

I'm just not sure that being blackmailed for peace is the only way to deal with this mess. For one thing--there will be no slaughter of the Israelis--they are fuly capable of defending themselves now. I was thinking more in terms of cutting everyones allowance in the ME and pressuring the Saudis to do the same !

What is obvious to some is not obvious to the many. America's ally can be used to deflect world and Arabic antagonism to this little state Country instead of itself in Israel's role as a surrogate. America pays for this right of cover in many ways. Israel has been able to defend itself against those nations of the world who have attacked both in war and by condemnation with righteous indignation.

But with or without the perception of being allies, the Islamic terroists of the world consider the US to be the big Satan and Israel the little Satan. Israel without the power of oil and money remains the ally that the USA can count on when the cards are down.

America protects its energy supplies by tenuous alliances with the devil. But in the end America knows that the oil producers cannot drink their black gold.

I don't want to step on anyone's toes here, but i don't know how you can say that Muslim societies are backwards and oppressive..

please don't call me anti-american or something like that, but I mean Pakistan has already had a female president, but US with its equal rights for all still hasn't gotten a female president...
