Number one.....the unions pulled the working class out of absolute serfdom and elevated them to a place where they could work hard, draw a living wage, educate their children and retire in dignity.

Number two.....The only political party which ever assisted them was Democrat.

Number three.....the middle class peaked just before Reagan fired PATCO

Number four......When rich begins at $450 thousand a year, over $40.000 a month and the average median state income in many states is $50,000-$60,000 a year the idea that there is even remnants of the middle class is absurd. The Republican party has methodically destroyed labor unions and the middle class. They cater to corporations and the rich and none of them allow for the possiblility of their offspring ever having to do duty in a forsaken desert 10,000 miles from home...much less die there.

I worked for a good company for 41 years, retired from a good job at that time and my total earnings during that 41 year period was about $600,000. My wife and I draw about $5,000 a month. She worked 43 years and retired several years after I did but we have a nice house on the lake, all the children are well educated, two with masters degrees, and we have no problems. Without the extended efforts of the labor unions none of that would have been possible because like so many millions of others from our era we only had high school educations.

Screw the Republicans. They will never be satisfied until everybody works 80 hours a week with no benefits and end up in the poorhouse the way they used to do before unions. While I'm at it screw the rich too because they feel entitled to be rewarded from the labors of others, pay little or no taxes and know that their precious offspring will never have to serve a day in the military/industrial wars they declare with little more reason than a whim and that the biggest concern the family will have is which ivy league school they will attend.

I was a Republican when they stood for balanced budgets, small government and individual rights and after the criminal Nixon began to fuck 'em to the right and fuck 'em to the left and all those in between I began to take a look at things. When Reagan fired PATCO, lowered taxes for the wealthy and began to borrow from foreign banks to cover the shortfall and quadrupled the national debt I knew the whole deal had changed and doubted that I would ever vote Republican again. Over the last 30 years the American dream has turned into the American nightmare. I wouldn't trust a war mongering, T Party, Low taxes for the rich Republican party in the shithouse with a muzzle on.

I used to live in North West Penna.

At one time there was a thriving steel industry there. There the unions held sway for a long time.

But the unions got a bit too greedy and much the steel industry moved overseas. Many a story i have heard about workers having a 3 boilermaker lunch.

Unions are a double edged sword. Unfortunately the heyday of unions has passed. Much of it b/c of their own unwillingness to compromise when compromise was needed.

I'm pro-union BTW

I'm pro Cammbpell is a hopless imbecile operating off of wrong facts and a sub par intelligence and doesnt deserve anything except scorn and mockery.

You forgot number five the unions of today are not the unions that did these things those unions wanted what was decent and fair today's unions want all they can get while doing as little as possible to try and compare the unions of today to those of a hundred or more years ago is idiotic in the extreme if your truly so blindly partisan you can't see that there is nothing that can be done to help you.

You know what....if you really believe that it expalins why you are a Republican because I know you haven't made much money........unless somebody left it for you.
Wrong. I voted straight "Duchebag" in 1992.

Did you know that there are choices other than "American League (R)" and "National League (D)"?

I'm having difficulty identifying why you're bitching.

Are you sorry your kids got Masters Degrees instead of just graduating from HS and being given a union job that anyone in Bangladesh could do?
